The Bloomfield Zoning Board of Adjustment voted last week to allow the abandoned Short Stop Diner (famous for its Eggs in a Skillet) to become a Dunkin’ Donuts. You can fret all you want about whether that’s a victory for Corporate America over the little guy. We see it as a big win for carbs.

  1. Forget the food, think of the architecture.
You people are wasting your time trying to preserve the Marlboro Inn and you let this slip through your fingers??
    Shame on you!

  2. The only change to the exterior is going to be the sign. They’ll be adding handicap access to the side, and the inside will be Dunkin’ Donuts, but the color and chrome won’t change.

  3. I have an idea. Let’s dismantle the defunct Short Stop and move it to the Marlborn Inn property! Or better yet, to Steve Plofker’s backyard.
Seriously, I will miss the Short Stop. The building itself SHOULD be moved & preserved someplace, however. It is a landmark and was cited in Weird NJ.
Well, at least we’ll be able to get a decent cup of coffee in Bloomfield now.
    Miss M
