jazz_for_jayden_concertThe only thing missing from the Jazz for Jayden concert at the Montclair High School ampitheater tonight was Jayden. The three-year-old Bloomfield boy, Jayden Singer, who survived bacterial menigitis this spring, is having surgery tomorrow — so he had to miss the concert orchestrated to raise money for his medical care.
Everything else, however, fell right into place for the concert organized by Montclair jazz musician Dave Marrish, who performed with his quartet. The weather cooled off. Almost 200 people showed up. Although the concert was free, it looked like about a third of the people there bought t-shirts to raise funds for Jayden, or else donated money.
After Jayden’s uncle read the family’s thank you, the Dave Marrish Quartet broke into an instrumental version of “Isn’t She Lovely.” We don’t know who “she” is, but tonight’s concert was lovely indeed.
