Congratulations are in order for ArtsPower, the Montclair-based touring theater group, for winning a $50,000 grant from the NJ State Arts Council.
ArtsPower is run by twin brothers Gary Blackman (of Glen Ridge) and Mark Blackman (of Montclair) and provides professional Equity theater for young audiences across the country. All the shows are based on works of children’s literature, such as “From the Mixed-up Files of Basil E. Frankweiler,” “Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel,” and “The Rainbow Fish.”

  1. Congratulations!!!
However, we here at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center are not surprised. We have had several shows performed by your theatre group for our Young People’s Arts Series, and will again. However, this time your marvelous company will be performing on our new 1,065 seat facility.

  2. CONGRATULATIONS!
A school matinee series at the Rialto Square Theatre is not complete without at least one production from ArtsPower! Teachers depend on ArtsPower for shows that are thoroughly researched, age-appropriate, well-written and produced….overall, of the highest professional quality. Students find them fun and thought-provoking. The grant is richly deserved!

  3. Every year we have an ArtsPower production for our schools and for families on a Sunday afternoon. We are especially excited about this year’s production of Rainbow Fish – it is not until May and we have already sold out one of the performances!

  4. Congratulations to ArtsPower! Little Engine That Could visited us of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District this past spring to rave reviews. Our community and staff have been asking when this high quality performing troupe will be able to wow us again!

  5. Congratulations!!! I’m excited at the prospect of this grant making it possible for the kids of NJ, some of whom have never seen ANY theatre, the opportunity to see good and appropriate children’s theatre. Maybe the Met will be one of your next stops?!!!!

  6. Dear Gary and Mark,
Congratulations! Thanks for letting me know. Charlotte’s new state-of-the-Art ImaginON Children’s Learning Center and Theatre will open this February. Maybe you’ll consider a production here? Do let me know when you make your Broadway debut, so I can attend and beam on your behalf.
    Best wishes, Sharon
