lawn_signChris Castellani, NJ.com’s official Montclair blogger, isn’t happy that the Montclair Town Council is considering a ban on contractor’s lawn signs. He questions why the council isn’t set on banning political signs (he should come to Glen Ridge, where political lawns signs are prevented by a ban on politics), and argues that Tirandola signs and their ilk have Constitutional protection. “Newsflash Mayor Remsen and the council people,” he writes. “Lawn signs are protected by something I like to call Freedom of Speech. If I want to put a sign or a lawn gnome in front of my house, I√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m going to do it.” So there.

  2. Ah, that’s nothin’. In Bloomfield we have political bill boards! There’s one for McCarthy on the corner of East Passaic and Coeyman, and another on West Passaic, heading toward Nutley. I remember the Bukowski billboard on the corner of Centre St and East Passaic (which was kinda strange since that’s Nutley, not Bloomfield!)

  4. Our town seems to have ‘ban’ fever.
    We will have to call it the People’s Republic of Montclair!
    But, before I get carted off to one of Kenschaft’s “voluntary” environmental reeducation camps, I’d like to propose a few other bans:
    1. Ban all the snotty letters to the Montclair Times – What a bunch of cranks!
    2. Ban sanctimonious bitching by the ‘entitled’ about minor school fees (like $200) in towns with MEDIAN family incomes above $120k. (Really! 120,650 !!! $200 is 0.001 of the MEDIAN income – what gall!)

  5. Are contractor signs and leaf blowers really the most pressing issues facing Montclair? What planet are these people on? How about Parking, Hahnes, Fortunato Field, Hahnes, Pools, Hahnes, and TAXES for starters!!!
