Yesterday’s incident involving gunfire on Bloomfield Ave. near the Staples shopping center was a carry-over from a disagreement that had taken place in Newark the day before. That’s the word from Bloomfield police chief John McNiff, who said that three suspects were in custody. During the fight, in which three teenagers fired on two adults, stray bullets sprayed across Bloomfield Ave., breaking through some store windows, including one at the Harley Davidson motorcycle dealership. One bullet grazed the foot of one the disputants, but otherwise nobody was hurt.
According to McNiff, most of the people in involved in the fight were from Newark, but it was neither gang- nor drug-related.
