According to the Montclair Times, bus drivers at Decamp are considering a strike within the next two weeks. Meanwhile, it looks like ferry service from Hoboken to downtown Manhattan could end any day.

Here’s the official reaction from NJ Transit.

  1. Gee, what a surprise. DeCamp has found still another way to inconvenience and annoy its loyal customer base. Loyal only because there is no alternative bus service. My wish this holiday season? I hope this abominable company fails miserably, is forced out of business, and that NJ Transit takes over.

  2. I agree. One of my secret wishes all along has been that Decamp pull out of the commuter business, thus forcing (one can hope!) NJ Transit to finally provide weekend service. To my knowledge ours is the only line that provides no weekend service.
I like Montclair but I hate the fact that your town is largely responsible for the huge service gaps that NJ Transit provides the Barista region!

  3. I was thinking the same thing. Weekend NJ Transit service is about the only thing missing from living in this area for me. With the ferry service reduced and potentially coming to an end soon, I’ve already seen an increase in passengers on Montclair-Boonton line trains. With the new station at MSU and increased ridership, you’d think NJT would wake up and smell the potential for business and give us a some weekend trains.

  4. unless I’ve missed something, there is no weekend train service in monclair–sporadic or otherwise. fixing that would be step one. step two would be restoring the old boonton line. in an area booming like this, it makes little sense to eliminate mass transit.

  5. Why, oh why, must they get rid of the ferry service to NYC? It’s the only civilized way to get to the city – yes, it costs a bit more, but what a nice trip…

  6. Well, well, well. The #66R driver who told me months ago that there was going to be a strike knew whereof he spoke. I did pass the rumor along to the Barista, but nothing was substantiated then.
You guys in Montclair have the train, but those of us in West Orange are just plain stuck. Boo hiss.
