Ivy Kirk (left) turned New Year’s Eve into a sweatshop, enticing her mother, Julia Gorton, to help her knit the accessories, which will retail for $12.

Ipod_cover Kirk’s plan is to sell enough iPod covers to pay for a trip to Iceland in June, when she graduates from Glen Ridge High School. Let’s see, that would be about … um… 300 iPod covers.

The pair, seen knitting on Friday night, were still knitting at a Glen Ridge regifting party on Sunday, and were well on the way to achieving young Kirk’s goal. With any luck, the delightful hand-knit items will not end up at next year’s regifting party. (Order here.)

  7. im from iceland and 4 ur info it can be really cold in the winter time and somee times warm same thing on the summer ive heard some ppl think we still live in snowhouses i can tell that bullshit we live in real houses and yes we weird stuff like shark & sheep balls and we eat gd food like pizza and of course other food so hope u like the info ENJOY

  21. I’m sorry, I just like her; not ALL of her songs, but many of them like “Cat” and the Sugarcubes stuff. I think much of her music is off-the-beaten path and it takes a lot of guts to experiment like she does.
    I did NOT like the movie she starred in, however.

  22. hey, if this blog is international, think what cool kind of cultural exchanges we could have on a global scale. how did iceland find out about this site. everyone i have ever met from iceland is funny and smart, kind of like the people in this neighborhood…but i think that the iceland people are more “out of the box” kind of thinkers!

  29. i like how everyone from iceland is backing it up and saying how it’s warm there. don’t you remember hearing in school when you were a kid that when iceland and greenland were founded they “switched” the names so that when other people wanted to move there and take over they’d go to greenland where it’s actually cold and iceland, where the weather is beautiful, would stay free of all the crappy people. now, if someone from iceland tells me this is not true, i will punch my 3rd grade teacher in the face.

  32. yeah they teach us that in school too.. like tell us it’s the oldest advertising trick there is hehe.. but i dunno if it’s actually true.. but yeah many people mix up iceland and greenland.. like people actually ask if we have igloos and like polar bears and penguins.. but we do have aurora borealis.. and it’s gorgeus if you go then make sure to stop by the Glacier lagoon in the eastern part of the country.. it’s amazing..

  33. I hope you manage to make enough Ipod covers to pay for your trip to Iceland.
    be sure to bring one for me to buy because i need a cover for my Ipod. Don’t worry about the shark and the sheepballs we don√Ǭ¥t eat it on day to day basis. It√Ǭ¥s more of an old tradtion and a way for us to shock foreigners.

  36. yeah we eat alot of grose food for example “burned sheepheads” and sheepballs in jelly .. but the young people dont like it that much mostly the older ones =) well good luck with your ipod covers

  37. Uhm right now it is about -4°C or 24.8 degrees Fahrenheit, in june it is about 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. But it can be much lower.
    We are know for our great quality meat and green food 🙂
    Cheese is okey i guess.

  38. At the moment it’s getting colder ( -6√Ǭ∞C and up to -14√Ǭ∞C in elevated areas ). It may still get colder while winter lasts, even if it’s rather unlikely.
    The local cheese is nothing to be proud of – rather dull taste of most of them ( bread cheese, brie and castle are the most usual variants ) but there is also a good assortment of import cheese ( french and italian ) in Hagkaup ( local “supermarket” – not you typical mall 😉 )
    Have fun on your trip, and if you plan on travelling alone or in a small group, bear in mind that weather changes can be extremely quick and the nights can be cold ( below freezing ) even in the early summer.
