Papertrail_1Passing the Paper Boutique today, we learned the store is now officially closed. Since news of its closing, there has been a steady stream of letters published in the Montclair Times each week, bemoaning its closing, as well as a rebuttal letter from Schweppe himself. We mourn the Paper Boutique’s passing, and wonder what will fill the void left in Watchung Plaza, as well as the Letters column? If you know what kind of business is coming, or if you still need to vent, feel free to speak your mind.

  1. Odd, isn’t it? Such vitriol about the commercial goings on in this town.
It is worse than “arm-chair” socialism. It is “rich guy” socialism.
It is just liberal guilt. “*I* am not greedy as I sit in my million dollar house while that bastard rasises the commercial rent on his property because *I* defend the local greeting card concern with my newspaper rantings”
Just like “*I* am free of involvement in war because *I* have a blue ribbon thingy on my car”

  2. Well, these people have a right to do whatever they want with their money, properties, etc.. I’m not arguing that. Just upset about the greediness and lack of character that runs so rampant these days.

  3. “Rich guy” socialism and blue ribbons? Give me a break. I assume you are boring people nightly with such nonsensical political diatribes. (Probably the kind of guy who watches the O’Reilly show every night nodding his head up and down.)
Schweppe can rot in hell for what all I care. He’s greedy and made millions of the backs of people in this town, including me. He could have cut these people a break and it wouldn’t have cost him one fancy cuban cigar or another lobster tail. Then he tries to pass himself off as the suffering victim in this. He’s got to be kidding. I’m hoping to bump into him in the near future and tell him what a greedy scumbag he is.

  4. My psychic powers tell me it’s going to be…….Another nail salon? No wait!…..A tattoo parlor?….Uh, maybe a Starbucks? Nah, probably a Dunkin’ Donuts…..Yes?

  5. Threatening to bump into someone ourposely to tell him he’s a “greedy scumbag,” as threatened above, hardly qualifies as civilized discourse. It’s more likely sheer idle bragadoccio from a would-be tough guy. And I’m shocked, shocked that an apparent liberal would resort to such thug-like chattter.

  6. How come liberals are always painted as wealthy while republicans are painted as poor victims? THat’s just a vicious myth.
There are plenty of us “liberals” on here who don’t own a damned thing…not even a car!

  7. I HAVE KNOWN JAY SCHWEPPE SINCE WE WERE IN 10TH GRADE TOGETHER. JAY HAS DONE SO MANY WONDERFUL THINGS FOR PEOPLE IN MONTCLAIR THAT VERY FEW PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT. BEING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS PERSON IS NOT AN EASY ROAD. AND TO THE PERSON WHO THINKS MY FRIEND IS A SCUMBAG……….PLEASE DO US ALL A FAVOR AND NEVER TELL ANYONE YOU LIVE IN MONTCLAIR , BETTER YET LEAVE. IF YOU DON’T LIKE WHAT GOES ON, PLEASE MOVE BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM…..AND I WOULD BET MONEY ON THAT IT IS SOME SCUMBAG DUMP!!!!
PROUD TO BE JAY SCHWEPPES FRIEND.

  8. Yes, K.L-B–I;m glad you’ve got a friend.
Despite any wonderful things he’s done for people, the fact is, he can charge anything he pleases for his properties. He has the right to do that. And charging less would make him a poor businessman.
