Scene_2 Merchants have been allowed to return to their stores and businesses are open again in Watchung Plaza, the scene of a freak accident this morning. A 14,000 volt electrical wire broke away from a pole on the north side of Watchung Avenue and fellow across the street, narrowly missing one woman and landing on a parked car which subsequently burst into flames. Streets all around the Plaza were blocked off and traffic diverted as firefighters contained the blaze, preventing the car from exploding. The incident also resulted in a power outage for folks residing in the immediate area.

Power was shut down by PSE & G in order to fix the broken line, forcing work-at-home folks like myself to go play hookie. Mayor Ed Remsen was Johnny-on-the-spot with a post to the Montclair Watercooler about the incident. Of course, in-the-know Barista readers were already informed.
