Bush finally got something right. Sam is an experienced and knowledgeable jurist. He believes in using the Constitution to judge our laws and not to create laws. I hear that the far left is going nuts cause they fear he will over turn RvW but he seems eminenently qualified for the SCOTUS.

Yup, Bush did something right. He finally showed us without ambiguity that he dances to the whims of the right wing theocracy trying to roll the country back to the nineteenth century.
Harriet Meirs didn’t get a chance to have an up or down vote in the Senate, as demanded by the GOP when other judicial candidates are held up in committee; rather she was attacked mercilessly and outrageously by the radical right wing who torpedoed her before the Senate ever had the chance to vote. Now we have a candidate for the Supreme Court who as an Appellate Judge
• Struck down the Family and Medical Leave Act in 2000 (overturned by the Supreme Court)
• Has no problem with unauthorized strip searches. In Doe v. Groody, Alito agued that police officers had not violated constitutional rights when they strip searched a mother and her ten-year-old daughter while carrying out a search warrant that authorized only the search of a man and his home.
• Allowed race-based discrimination and discrimination based on disabilities.
• Is on record as being committed to overturning Roe v. Wade.
Katrina, massive budget deficits, and continued economic hardship have proven that Republicans can’t govern. Iraq and Osama Bin Laden have proven that Republicans can’t run an effective foreign policy. Now Scalito, sorry I meant Alito, along with Bush’s social security debacle, will prove to the American people that conservative ideology doesn’t have their best interests at heart.
Iceman, you should call yourself Caveman. And remember, a vote for Forrester is a vote for a person who is to the right of Bush and his Mullah puppeteers.

The failed social and foreign policies as practiced by the Dems since JFK have set us back for 40 yrs. The country needed strong republican leadership to make hard decisions cause we don’t live in a commune where every one practices ‘kumbaya’. Ever since Carter failed to free the hostages, Americans have turned to leaders who will fight for us not worrying about hurting the feelings of the UN or France.
What a nightmare. Dark times, dark times indeed. If Alito is confirmed, congress has made its last law. Alito has no respect for the constitution, the commerce clause, and the 200 years of judicial precedence. He has a troubling record and lack of respect for congress. He confirmation will literally mean the end of a nation.
And I can not believe you conservatives who would give your rights up and freedoms so completely. You deserve the slavery you are imposing on yourselves. Hopefully justice will previal. We freedom loving American’s may not win but we deserve to win.

The republician are good at 2 things, lining there pockets as no bid contractors and stepping on the rights and freedoms of American’s.
Well, it doesn’t look like we have much of a choice on Nov. 8, Ug, other than Forrester and Pawlowski, the Libertarian candidate, who wants to shrink government, as do I. The reality is that Pawlowski just doesn’t have the backing he’ll need to win.
You all know how I feel about Corzine.
Then we have a couple of Socialists (Rozzo and Lariscy); Edward “Legalize Marijuana” Forchion; Wesley Bell, whose platform I still can’t figure out; Theike, the Green candidate, who makes good points but like Pawlowski, does not have the backing; a registered nurse named Latigona whose big ploy is tax reform; and Castillo who wants to throw good money after bad under the guise of “education.”
Kinda like cable TV: Lots of channels but no content. I’ll put my vote with Forrester.

I don’t want to take up this space having daily arguments with you over policy. If you would just admit that I am right then we will be ok…just kidding, don’t lose your passion.
Iceman, I can’t stand by and do nothing. In 6 years of republican rule I have seen my rights eroded, the death of 2000 American solders and 100,000 Iraqi’s, loyal American’s in patriotic service betrayed, people tortured by American’s, and Katrina and 911 and it goes on and on and on.
How can you still back your party? How can you endorse this president?

Unfortunately the 2 parties have managed to grow so broad that, when taken as a whole, can’t really be told apart except for the names they go by to sling mud at the other guys. (OKAY the red/blue colors also)
Both parties at this point stink like hell. They’ve evolved into fat cats running everything at the state & federal level. They’re captive to special interests & large corporations – basically everyone with power except for the people that put them there in the first place. Unfortunately americans have de-evolved into an un-informed mass who don’t care enough to rebel against the status quo, and are spoon fed sound bytes & catch phrases designed by the profit driven media to pass as ‘information’ or ‘news’, but in reality are merely means to conquer their competing media competition.
We need an Andrew Jackson-type to be swept into office by the people & end all this crap. The 2 existing partiies have outlived their usefullness & now are only good for sniping at each other.

Man, I love the smell of freeper delusion – so, John, tell us about this “strong republican leadership”….that would be the same Republican leadership that turned a strong economy into a stagnant one, turned a budget surplus into a vast deficit, that increased poverty rates, that lied to justify the invasion of a sovereign country to its citizens, that continues to screw up every single one of its policy initiatives.

Iceman, there are a lot of us who were 100% behind Bush on Afghanistan, but think he dropped the ball & lost his focus on terrorism when he went after Iraq.
He moved Special Forces out of Afghanistan to prep for Iraq at a time when they might have made a difference in capturing OBL. For that matter, he flip-flopped on OBL worse than Kerry ever did on anything.
The invasion of Iraq was an attempt to implement a worldview conceived by the PNAC gang in the mid-90s that had already been outstripped by reality.
Bush couldn’t even do the invasion right. His man Rumsfeld thought he could do the invasion on the cheap, overruled the Pentagon, forced them to invade with troops inadequate to secure the country, and landed us in the ongoing bloody mess we have today.
I too want’leadership that will fight for our freedoms, we’re together on that. I also want leadership who will do that intelligently and effectively, and I don’t think that what Bush & co. have done since Afghanistan has made us more secure.
So this is a Halloween thread and all of you old people are boring and not talking about Halloween, save this crap for tomorrow and the rest of the week coming up to elections. I’m 20 and I’m going trick or treating as a mexican with my dog and my friend Kate who is taking my boyfriends spot (because he has class and has to hand in a paper, boo.) But today is Halloween, and we were all supposed to be telling stories about how our moms would make us turn back around and ring the door bell again if we didn’t say thank you, or the time your dad bit every piece of candy saying he was just “checking it for poison”.

Even when the rest of the conservative 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals said it was okay to make women wait 24 hours, Alito desented because he also wanted to allow the requirement that women notify their husbands if they planned to get an abortion.
I’d love to vote for Codey, but at this point a write-in for Codey is a vote for Forrester.
What about all the women without husbands? However are we going to think for ourselves and make such a big decision like aborting a baby? Hopefully they will write into the law that if a grown woman has no husband (hussie!!) that she must notify her father. A woman shouldn’t make such decisions without the guidance of a male. If the woman has no husband or father, hopefully there will be a brother or uncle or priest available. If not, perhaps Bill Frist will step in.
