Be of good cheer…

  1. Check out Alison’s Blog . She found an interesting, if not foul languaged diatribe about Christmas. Well researched and documented. But it got me thinking. Bear with me here…
OK. After mulling over what this guy is saying…My feeling is that the ‘C’ that is missing in Christmas is not Christ…but Community. Where has all the good cheer gone? My family have been watching Christmas specials…Sponge Bob, Olive the Other Reindeer…Charlie Brown…The Grinch ( animated, Please! )…THE main theme is that Love and Belief in something can make ANYTHING possible. And as Linus says in Charlie Brown…”…Peace, good will towards men…that’s what Christmas is about…”
I’ve been saying “Merry Christmas” to everyone with a smile and a heartfelt feeling of ‘goodwill towards men’ and the results are nothing but miraculous. I haven’t had one person scowl at me or try to √¢‚ǨÀúcorrect√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ what I√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m saying. I think most people understand that the good wishes are there√¢‚Ǩ¬¶never mind what is being said. There is a horrible lack of a sense of true community in this world. And I mean WORLD. We are all of the Earth. We are not separate. We need each other. So. Smile. Say what ever Holiday greeting suits you, but say it with a true sense of good will towards men. And mean it. Merry Christmas everyone. You deserve it.

  2. Let us put away partisanship and squabbling for the next few days and simply enjoy the core of what Christmas season is supposed to truly be about, peace on earth, at least in concept, and good will. For unto us a babe is born and all that…Joy to the world, folks. Especially to fellow conservatives, of course, but, well, uh, drat, ah, mmmmm, to ALL (good grief but typing those three little letters stings) until, at least, Dec. 26.
Merry Christmas to all, then, and to all a good night.

  3. Good cheer? Feh. We were to have been with the family in Maine yesterday. But the cat didn’t get better. After a second trip to the vet, she needs more meds & a special diet (not easy with 4 other cats in the house). So instead of being where Life is The Way It Ought To Be, we’re still stuck in a state desperate for a slogan.
Nothing like having suitcases packed full of the right stuff for the Maine climate & having the rug pulled out from under you.
Not to mention several hundred $$ in airline rebooking fees. You want to talk thuggery? When it comes to squeezing money out of consumers, the TWU are rank amateurs next to the airlines.
Oh well, I still wish everyone a merry Christmas.

  4. KB toys had not shipped order for the rugrats as of Wednesday (even though order placed Dec. 12) When called on Wednesday they promised overnight shipping on Thursday.
Tracking number received but when order didn’t show up today and tracking report say “please call us” at DHL, we were told KB Toys had sent 19,000 packages to DHL last night without scanning the individual shipments, just the pallets the boxes were on. DHL now has to break down the pallets and scan and route and ship the packages themselves. The woman at DHL replied when asked if she was the betting type, “I’d go to a toy store if I were you”.
What idiot at KB thought they could pull this off?
So after a less than satisfying trip to Kmart we are ready to crucify somebody from KB.
Or did some wackjob at DHL promise KB they’d “git ‘er done”

  5. Merry Holidays to all of my Baristavillians and here’s hoping ya’ll ‘git it done’ during the holiday season.

  6. “At Christmas I no more desire a rose than wish a snow in May’s new-fangled mirth; But like of each thing that in season grows”…William Shakespeare

  7. thanks for the good wishes to all, cathar. sincere wishes for a peaceful and happy holiday to everyone in baristaville as well. to the liberals and the conservatives, to the centrists, to the libertarians, if you are close enough to read this, have a great holiday.
