Okay, this might actually be closer to Montclair than the other two locations — but not by much. It’s like they are deliberately planning stores about 20-25 minutes away from where I live. What gives, Trader Joes?
Better, but still too far away for most trips. I was @ Kmart getting school supplies today & they seem to be moving well on the WF there.

I don’t “do” Paramus. Too far out of “normal” range, (whatever THAT is) daily travels. Tend to stay in Essex County. Territorial bird here!
I hope they have their famous chocolate truffles!

Trader Joe’s might fall under the same rule as Whole Foods… only two locations in NJ get liquor licenses.
Paramus – would never go that far for Trader Joe’s. I’m with Say One. I keep out of Bergen County – I get lost there!
Florham Park is right near my job which is good.
I was there yesterday. It is big, but I wasn’t sure that it had more items than Florham Park. However, the ride is a quick one because it’s all highways from Montclair. It took me 20 minutes tops to get there.
Phew–this is going to be quicker to get to than the other 2. And Garden State is better than Short Hills Mall, anyway–kill 2 birds with one stone.
how does it compare to corrados?
Corrados is good in its own way, but not as much fun. But well worth the trip anyway. More produce, very cheap.
I don’t get the big appeal of Trader Joe’s. This is someone who does 90% of her shopping at Whole Foods. I have frequented the one in Westfield several times and also the one near Wayne. It does nothing for me. They may have a few neat things, but not worth the trip to me. I also don’t drink, so maybe the appeal of their cheap wine is lost on me. The store is very boring to me.

Trader Joes is cheaper than Whole Foods because it mainly sells Trader Joes brand groceries. I like the selection of quality frozen food like the fried rice and the spinach pizza. They have ready-made wraps, sushi, hummus, scones, bread, all for under $4. Plus they sell canned soups for around $1.99 — you can’t beat that! The point being that Trader Joes is a cheap way to eat healthy food that can be prepared quickly.
I too am pleased by the new location, but was wishing for the Montclair WF to shut down when the West Orange one opens – making way for an in-town Trader Joe’s! But my dreams have not been realized…
While on the topic of Corrado’s, can someone please post simple driving directions there from Montclair?
$1.99 for what size of canned soup? 10oz? That’s not cheap by any means. Sheesh. I got Campbell’s condensed for $1.29 a can at the Stop & Shop.
About the same distance as the one in Wayne, which I also won’t drive to. I rarely even drive to the next town to buy groceries. It will be a very pathetic day indeed when I need to drive to another county to buy groceries!
Does anyone know if (1) the Stop-and-Shop is definitely coming to Bloomfield, (2) if it is, when, and (3) where exactly? Will it be near the Bloomfield station?
I would much rather have TJ or WF….What about a farmer’s market? I heard there might be a regular one in Bloomfield next year.
Way cheaper and way better at TJ’s than at WF: milk, eggs, yogurt,juice, tofu, CHEESE, breads, crackers, chips, snack food, nuts, dried fruit, canned beans and veggies, rice and other grains, condiments of all sorts, olives, artichoke hearts, etc…, sauces and marinades, frozen meats, fish, chicken.
The NJ Trader Joes are pale shadows of the TJ stores in CA, but still far superior to WF, in my opinion.
For Hiding in Barristaville – there is already a Stop & Shop in Bloomfield. It’s on Franklin Street, on the Belleville border. Been there a couple of years now.

Trader Joe’s is all about providing the BEST quality at a good value via its Private Label.
There was a great article a few months back in New York Times when they opened their store in NYC. It explains in great detail the lengths the TJ’s folks go to so as to provide top quality.
Having shopped in one of their original stores in CA many years ago I can say that if you love them, you’ll continue to love and if you don’t you’ve got other choices. But they’ve been true to their format and niche since the 80’s which is more than I can say for most traditional supermarkets that want to lure shoppers in one week and with low prices or a giveaway, and then ignore them the next week.
They don’t call it Whole Paycheck for nothing… that’s one difference.
Seems like Trader Joes is catering more to the Passaic/Bergen County customers than Essex County. Paramus and Wayne are both equal distance from my office in Montclair. Timewise is just depends on traffic, and Route 46 with its construction is not fun, and Route 17 is a big mess as it is.
I know this is off topic but we haven’t had many open threads recently. Has anyone been to any of these fancy restaurants? They were all picked as top restaurants in the State. I’ve been wanting to try one but can’t decide which one. The Pluckemin Inn in Bedminster; David Drake’s in Rahway; Lorena’s in Maplewood; or Copeland in the Westin Governor Morris Hotel in Morristown.

I tried to get into Lorena’s, but it was crowed, & we were pressed for time. Will tryu again, soon. Others are to far away to be bothered. Time is scarce right now.
With the blue laws in Bergen Cty still in effect, will TJ’s be open on Sunday?? Or will cerain aisles be closed off with yellow tape like at BJ’s? I’ll stick to Florham Park.

Take parkway north to Hazel street exit. Turn left and then take the second right. when you get to the end of that street, Corrado’s will be right in front of you on Main Street.(sorry I don’t know the names of the other streets)

You can also take 46East to Piaget (just past the Burger King). There’s a light by a library, make a left there and Corrado’s will be on the right, about 1/2 a mile down.

I think Trader Joe’s is great, but I can’t do all my shopping there. Same with WF. Each is good for certain items.
Every time I’m at TJ’s (usually the one in Wayne), I plead for them to open in Mtc. After all, it’s their optimal customer base–and we already have a WF, which I suspect would suffer greatly from the competition. But the staff there tell me the company has a strict formula (OK, maybe not so strict for NYC, but that’s a reasonable exception to make) of how much $ per sq. foot they will pay for rent, and Mtc. (which they have already considered) is too pricy. I would bet they’d like to see better parking, too. But how great would it be to see them open in the WF location on Blfd. Ave.? For that matter, open in Bloomfield for less $ and still draw the Mtc. shoppers. I can dream…
I haven’t been to any of the other fancy places mentioned above, but I did visit Lorena’s in early June and was very impressed. Fabulous food and service. But be warned: it’s quite expensive.
