Some of those kids are recongizable – not that I know them since my kids are a good bit younger than that.     The two are mutually exclusive, but both are relevant agents in the result we see here in the video. Foul language and degrading behavior does not kick in only when the camera is on. We see it every day in our lives, on television, etc. And teenage behavior is more a result of hormones, free time, and lack of responsibility than anything else. Its a phase for most of us; we eventually get jobs and families and become law-abiding, respectful citizens.
    The video itself doesn’t shock me. But if I had a child (and especially a child that was identifiable in one of these videos), I’d focus on being a good parent to that child, rather than squawking loudly about the evils of technology and electronics.

I have a Freshman in HS and he and his friends do not participate in this kind of behavior. I am not being naive, it simplky doesn’t happen in his peer group.   55. Earlier this evening my wife and I took our two sons and one of their friends to a birthday dinner for the younger son at The Manor. We had a wonderful time and the boys really enjoyed the food. But there were several times during the dinner when there was a clear distinction between the parents and the kids. I think these videos are squarely on the kid side of things.
    I don’t like it, it seems juvenile and immature, but when I really think about it, this is the time for that kind of behavior. Am I condoning or accepting the behavior…? No, of course not. Clearly the major difference from my day is the availability of video devices, something another poster mentioned. We behaved in similar fashion, insulting and hurting people without a care.
    It did look staged, and it does seem overly hostile. But after watching three young men (ages 15-17) at a table for a couple of hours, it is almost par for the course.

    To let you all know, yes it was fake. Such hints make include the track played over. (the 1812 overture) and the title “the battle of montclair”
    the last hit, which seems to be causing a lot of contriaversey, was indeed staged.
    The way we did it was take fragments of a cushion and pillow, and strap them to the victims head using a sweatband.
    you arent going to see this becuase we intentionaly edited the lighting so it was unclear,(therefor making it look real)
    we practiced this hit several times to make sure it would come out good. And i guess it did.

I was surprised (and relieved) that it wasn’t – yes, there were punches thrown but I didn’t see any blood, nobody seemed to get particularly hurt. This fight was started by the unfortunate people who are now being called, “victims.” If you start a conflict, you cannot become the victim. I’ve also read comments relating this to the war in Iraq and the future of this country. If you believe that the future of this country is jeopardized by a few teenagers involved in a fight, then you need to stop watching Dr. Phil, and wake up to reality. It’s sad that such trivial matters such as a consensual fight should be so fiercely frowned upon. Fights are not, “good” and people can get hurt, so they should not be, “permitted.” Judging an entire generation based on the actions of a few people is ludicrous. If a fight is in progress, stop it.
