You’ll find plenty of Equity actors in New York lamenting the fact that they devote weeks to rehearsing a showcase and then union rules limit them to just a dozen or so performances. They should realize how much tougher school kids have it: The drama club at Glen Ridge High has been knocking themselves out for much of the semester, getting their spring musical ready to open. And they get just three opportunities to wow Baristaville with their talents.
“Pippin” opens tonight, after what we’re told was a high-energy final dress rehearsal. Steven Schwartz (“Wicked“) wrote the book and lyrics, including the wonderful “Corner of the Sky.” Glen Ridge’s revival has an impressive pedigree: It’s directed by Garth Kravits, who recently finished a run in Broadway’s “Drowsy Chaperone.”
