What’s wrong with this equation? Experts says the Garden State is one of the nation’s top spenders on health care, yet our kids are among the nation’s most underserved. The Commonwealth Fund reports their state-bystate findings after analyzing how well kids are receiving health care services; New Jersey, where high costs and no insurance coverage create significant barriers, ranked near the bottom of the list. From NJ.com:

Overall, New Jersey ranked 42nd based on its performance in five key areas – access, quality, costs, equity and potential for children to lead long, healthy lives.
In general, the authors found, children in the bottom ranked states were less likely to get recommended health care, including vaccines, dental care and regular medical check-ups. Children in these states were also found to be at greater risk for developmental delays and infant mortality.

  13. Probably not a lot of doctors in Millburn, Short Hills, Glen Ridge, Ridgewood and Rumson accept it either.

  14. Um-NJ FamilyCare enrolls you in one of 5 or so major HMOs which you choose. Horizon, Healthnet and Americhoice among them. I know for certain there are doctors in Glen Ridge and most likely in Montclair that accept this insurance.
    Maybe the issue is not access but awareness.
