Last week we told you about a group of high school students from all across the northern part of the state putting on “Rent.” Another group (many of them friends of the “Rent” ensemble) is putting on “Les Miserables” this weekend. The NJ Summer Theatre Workshop is directed by longtime Glen Ridge theatrical impresario Darren Gage, with music direction by Jim Millar. The show features three young Glen Ridge talents: Will Carey, Catherine Blauch and Noah Levinson. The three-night run starts tonight at Tenafly High School. More info on our calendar.

Also Tonight/Fri/Sat and next Thur/Fri/Sat:
If you have never been to a Talent Time Players production you are missing out on a great time! For those of you who are not familiar with this organization, in 1950, a young man named Charles Seller lost one of his legs after being struck by a train. His family and friends came together to assist him with his medical expenses by putting on a variety show named Talent Time. This began a tradition of giving in Bloomfield, NJ, that has lasted for 58 years. Every summer a group of talented individuals ranging in age from thirteen to thirty get together from all over New Jersey and put together a show to benefit an area resident with high medical bills.
This year’s production is Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and will benefit Jayden Piacenza of Bloomfield, NJ. Jayden and her parents live in Watsessing Heights. Jayden has a disorder called Cruesons (Pfieffer) Disease which results in craniofacial anomalies. Craniofacial anomalies are a group of deformities involving the development of the head and facial bones. These anomalies are congenital and can vary in type and severity. In Jayden’s case, her skull developed into a cone shape. The corrective surgery reshaped her skull, pushing the bones back but not moving her eyes completely into the proper position. As a result, her eyes bulge out of their sockets. She will soon be undergoing surgery to correct this defect.
This year?s show dates are Thursday July 31st and August 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th and 9th. All shows start at 8 PM and tickets are available at the door. They are $12 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. Checks should be made out to: The Charles Seller Foundation. This year The Charles Seller Foundation’s TT show is being held at Bloomfield High School (bonus: air conditioning!)
Please consider coming out to see these talented players and more importantly, help support a member of our community who needs our assistance!
Congratulations to the cast of Les Miz, especially to Will, Noah & Cat. You blew me away!
