Looking for a nice, warm, indoor activity? Take a walk on the modern side at Art Connections 5 – a stunning exhibition of 166 art pieces by 106 contemporary artists, on view now through Saturday February 14 in the George Segal Gallery at Montclair State University.
Art Connections 5 opened with a standing-room only reception earlier this month, hosted by Montclair resident, Patricia G. Selden, juror for the event. Selden reviewed 1,500 works of art submitted by artists from all over the country for this exhibition.

This is the fifth year George Segal Gallery has sponsored Art Connections, and after touring the gallery, I regret that I missed the previous four exhibitions. Many of the artists represented hail from Baristaville, including Bill Westheimer, Stephanie Silverman, Nora Chavooshian, Dan Fenelon, Cliff Tisdell, Lyn So Yoo , Jim Price, Eric Levin, George Saj, and Andy Foster. You can start your own modern art collection at this show, which features original art in a variety of media – painting, photography, sculpture, prints, drawings, collage. The striking gold-leaf icons, feline-inspired masks, pin-hole nature photos and a ceramic ostrich-egg sculpture were among my faves. Every piece is for sale, prices range from $250-$12,000.
Gallery Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 10am to 5pm, Thursday, 12:30-7:30 pm. For more information call, 973 655 3382.
