A few years back, my family attended Art in the Park, the annual fundrasier and art show put together by The Montclair Cooperative School. The musical performance was by a family led by Elizabeth Mitchell.
Elizabeth, her husband Daniel Littleton and their daughter Storey perform lovely renditons of Woody Guthrie, Bob Marley, The Velvet Underground, and much more. One of my favorite covers is of Ladybug Picnic from Sesame Street. They also perform original music, which can hold its own beside the covers.
We were enjoying the concert when my daughter, who was three-years-old at the time, was so moved by the music that she made her way up on stage. I rushed to get her down, but Elizabeth just helped her up, handed her a tambourine and let her perform with the band. It was beautiful–a true moment. See her in the picture at left making her stage debut. (She’s the little one at center stage.) We became fans immediately.
We would catch the band every time they came around and Elizabeth always remembers my daughter and asks her up to perform a few songs. A couple of days ago, I received an email from Elizabeth telling me they would be performing at the 92Y in Tribeca on Sunday, and if my daughter would like to perform with them. Would she? She is practicing her songs as I write.
