Assault
On May 9, at about midnight, a male resident of East Orange was found unconscious at New Street and Bloomfield Avenue. He had a large contusion on his forehead and was bleeding from the mouth and head. An acquaintance of the victim said he had been attacked by 10 to 12 men. Police said the victim, who may have been assaulted with a pipe, was sent to Mountainside Hospital for treatment. Anyone with information should contact Det. Charles Cunningham at 973.509.4716.

The 29 year old was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault and two counts of threats. Bail was set at $10,000 but no gun was recovered. Anyone with information should contact Det. Ricky Singleton at 973.509.4722.

Police arrested Jaclyn Arias, 20, and Anibal Mateo, 31, both of Hackensack, on May 7 for the thefts, and recovered the victim’s social security cards and several items that had been bought using the victim’s stolen credit cards. Both Arias and Mateo were charged with burglary, theft of movable property, criminal mischief and conspiracy, and both had warrants out of Paterson, while Mateo also had warrants out of Prospect Park, Clifton and Passaic.
Carjacking
On May 7, at about 11:20am, an East Hanover resident reported that as his black BMW X5 was coming out of the Palace Car Wash on Bloomfield Avenue, a man standing near the car jumped into it and started to drive out of the car wash. The victim jumped onto the car as the suspect drove east on Bloomfield Avenue, releasing his grip around Bloomfield Avenue and Freeman Parkway in Glen Ridge and wounding himself in the process.
The vehicle was later located on Eppirt Steet in East Orange, locked, parked, and unoccupied. The suspect is described as male, about 20-25 years old, with long dreadlocks that came to the middle of his back, and a goatee. He was wearing a white tank top, blue jeans, and work boots. Anyone with information should contact Det. Joseph Anderson at 973-509-4706.
Palace Car Wash is THE worst place one can take their car to. Next time you are driving East down Blmfd. Ave. – slow down and look what they use to wash cars. They use floor brooms. They fill long narrow tubs with soapy water (probably use it over &* over & over all day,) ’til it becomes 1/2 dirt & 1/2 dirty water, and they dip the floor brooms into this dirty filthy soapy water and rub the floor brooms over your car.
In the winter, you can see the workers poking at the trough to break up the ice that has formed on it. Nice! Pass.
Another reason to get your Chinese food delivered. Also the car wash just over the top of the hill in Verona is under new management. They do hand wash, and no one steals your car.
Sandy-
I’ve gone to Palace Car Wash many times and never had a problem with the way they conduct business. They get my car clean enough at a decent price. That “dirty” water you complain about is filled with detergent, and is only supposed to help break up the grime on your car before it goes into the wash.
I’d like to see you wash cars in the dead of winter.
