A rock was thrown, which broke a Union St apartment window, a man was issued a summons for drinking alcohol in public, and there was a forced entry and attempted burglary at a Valley Rd apartment, Montclair police reported, along with the following:
Drug Arrest
May 21: At about 6:15pm, police approached Jason Josaphat, 20, of Montclair, who was walking on Forest St, near Walnut St, and known to have a $500 warrant out of East Orange. On being told he was being arrested, Josaphat became aggressive, and was placed in custody. Police found 15 ziplock bags of marijuana, with a street value of $300, on him.
Josaphat, who also had a $500 warrant out of Newark, was charged with possession and intent to distribute marijuana and aggravated assault on police. He is being held on $25,000 bail and will be sent to Essex County Jail.
Robberies
May 21: A 29-year-old Montclair resident was approaching the intersection of Elm and Fulton Streets, when a group of young males grabbed his shirt to pull him to the ground and demanded his money. The victim freed himself and ran north on Elm St. The youths were described as being in their late teens or early 20s, and one had dreadlocks. Anyone with information should contact Det. May 22: At about 11:25pm, a 17-year-old Montclair youth was approached by five males on Bloomfield Ave near Pine St, and robbed, with a gun possibly being involved. The group surrounded the victim and demanded his MP3 player, while one suspect placed a hard metallic object to the back of the victim’s head and threatened him. This suspect removed the MP3 player, an AT&T cell phone, and $5 bill from the victim’s pocket. The group fled north on Pine St towards Glenridge Ave.
Police in Glen Ridge later detained some youths who were identified as being involved in the robbery and the MP3 and cash were returned to the victim. No weapon was recovered. The suspects were aged 15, 17 and three were 16; two each were from Montclair and East Orange while one was from the Bronx. All five were remanded to the Essex County Youth House after being charged with robbery.
Arrest
May 22: At about 1:10am, police arrested Stephan McMullan, Sr. of West Orange, who had been in the custody of West Orange police. McMullan had two warrants out of Montclair, and one each out of Newark, Lyndhurst and Cranford.
Theft
May 23: A Montclair resident had bought food from Sunrise Bagels at Watchung Plaza and left her purse on the counter at about 11:00am. She returned to retrieve the Gucci tan-and-teal purse, worth $300, but it was nowhere to be found. The purse contained her driver’s license, credit cards, $100 cash and red sunglasses worth $200. There are no suspects.
Suspicious Activity
May 24: At about 12:10am, a man was found on a Montclair Ave residence looking into a locked garage. Police were called and the man fled towards Christopher St. He was 5’10” to 6′ tall, 180-195lbs, of heavy build, wearing a dark hooded jacket and dark pants and light tan work boots.
