It’s graduation day today for Montclair State University – 3,745 degrees are being awarded right now at Izod Center, and Baristanet intern Kristie Cattafi (beaming, 4th from right) is among the happy crowd. Including guests, there are about 12,000 in the stadium.
Author James Bradley, who wrote about his father’s experiences on Iwo Jima during World War II in his best-seller Flags of Our Fathers, will receive an honorary degree, Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, at MSU’s 2010 Commencement exercises.
The 2010 Senior Speaker at Commencement is Linden resident Kathleen Banzon, a communication studies major. Preceding the May 21 Commencement, Montclair State’s six schools and colleges held convocations to honor their graduates and confer honorary degrees to Alumnus Charles Magliaro, former superintendent of East Hanover School District, Steve Forbes, president and chief executive officer of Forbes and editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine, “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, radio personality, from the College of the Arts, Alumnus John Wallace, president, NBC Local Media Division, Richard Axel, professor at Columbia University and Nobelist in Physiology or Medicine, 2004, Fahima Vorgetts, Afghani women’s advocate and activist, from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Congratulations to all!

  1. Congratulations, Kristie. Beauty and brains is a good combination. Now might be a good time to ask Lady Barista for a raise.
