If you think that the title of “Greatest Super Mario Fan” of all time should be yours — once and for all — all you have to do is step away from the game long enough to bid on eBay. If you win the auction, you’ll be publicly declared the champ in the dedication of Bloomfield author Jeff Ryan’s upcoming book, Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America, (Portfolio/Penguin).

Ryan (shown at right) assures bidders that winning the dedication will “be better than jumping over a flagpole in World 3-3.”

Obviously, if this accomplishment means nothing to you, you might not be a candidate, but if you’re in the know, consider that when the book comes out next summer, the top bidder will see “his or her name festooned, engraved, and also printed on each and every copy of every print run of the book,” according to Ryan. “It’ll be like putting your name up in the high-score list of every single Mario game at the same time.” The winner will also receive an autographed copy of the book.

What’s more, 100% of the auction proceeds will go to Child’s Play, a worldwide charity that improves the lives of children with toys and games.

As of this posting, bids are up to $86, and there are 9 days and 4 hours left until a winner is declared. Ryan adds that would-be bidders should “act now, before Bowser hijacks the auction and dedicates the book to his son, Ludwig Von Koopa.”
