Last week, I was psyched to listen to David Levithan and Rachel Cohn read from their new young adult book, Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares, at Watchung Booksellers. (See left.)
These awesome teen authors also wrote Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, which became an equally awesome movie. The Dash and Lily movie is already in the works. Their main characters, often Jersey suburbanites, create mayhem in Manhattan.
Margot at Watchung Booksellers is staying busy this week hosting another great kids’ author. This Wednesday, from 7 to 8 p.m., writer Dewar McLeod will discuss his new book, Kids of the Black Hole: Punk Rock in Postsuburban California.
Another teen book signing takes place on Thursday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Barnes & Noble in Paramus. Author Margaret Gelbwasser will read from her new book Inconvenient, which is about growing up Russian and Jewish in New Jersey. Scenes of the book are set at The Garden State Plaza. And full disclosure, Margie’s awesome. She started working on this book in the young adult novel writing class I taught through Mediabistro.
Bottom line: Kids love readings by their favorite authors–and we adults sometimes feel inspired to get going on our own book ideas.
