Hundreds of stories have been written about the New York Times’s decision to build a paywall to limit access to its website. But one person who doesn’t care a whit is Montclair artist Peter Jacobs. Jacobs has a strong attachment to the Times, but as a collage artist, it’s only the paper version that interests him.
For six years, every day, Jacobs has woken up, taken an Exacto blade to the newspaper and created something he calls his Collage Journal, which he then scans and posts online. I sat down with him last week to talk about the project.
Jacobs currently has work on view at the Montclair Art Museum’s exhibit “What is Portraiture?” and at the SMI Gallery at Academy Square. He is also the artist in resident for April at 365 Days of Print.
