For the 29th consecutive year, runners and walkers will take to the streets and parks for the Annual Montclair 10K & 2M Run/Walk on Sunday June 5, starting at 8:30 a.m. for the 2 mile and at 9:30 for the 10K. Both events will begin and end at the Montclair Y, 25 Park Street.

Both courses are flat. The 10K (6.2 mi.) runs through Edgemont and Anderson Parks, with splits are at 1, 3, and 5 miles. There are 3 water stops. Compuscore will provide race results on their website.

According to the Y’s Carol Kearney, who co-directs the race along with Pat Brechka for the Montclair Recreation & Cultural Affairs department, the goal of the run is to promote good health and an active lifestyle. “It’s a great community event,” Kearney told Baristanet. “There’s a DJ party after the race, with refreshments and fun for the whole family.” Kearney says they’re expecting more than 1,000 participants for both races.

This year the event is specifically encouraging participation in the 2 mile walk from the Montclair public schools. The school with best turnout will receive a plaque and a $100 prize to the physical education department for the purchase of equipment.
