Montclair police report two cases of shoplifting — and one arrest — yesterday.

Shoplifting

On 2/27/12 at approximately 7:15 PM, police responded to Pathmark in the Lackawanna Plaza Mall on a report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival, police spoke to an employee who stated that he observed a male, identified as Erskine Ponton, conceal two packages of meat in his coat and exit the store without paying for the merchandise, which was valued at approximately $25.
Ponton, 39, of Montclair, was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting. Bail was set at $2,500. He was also found to have a warrant issued by Bloomfield, with bail set at $40.

Shoplifting

On 2/27/12 at approximately 9:20 PM, police responded to Anthropologie on Bloomfield Avenue on a report of a theft. Upon arrival, police spoke to an employee who reported that sometime between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM on that date, several items were taken from the two front display tables located at the front of the store. The complainant reports that seven Sparrow sweaters, valued at $118 each, and five pairs of Cartonnier pants, valued at $118, were taken from the store. There are no suspects at this time.
