Tomorrow is the last day for Montclair candidates to file their election petitions with the town clerk. Right now, there are three mayoral candidates, but former councilor/possible candidate and lawsuit bringer Ted Mattox told the Montclair Times he isn’t loving any of the candidates, adding of Turner “I don’t see her down in Crockett’s Fish Fry.”
We want to check your pulse early on in the election season. Tell us who you would vote for…and what restaurant do you see your favorite candidate at (yes, a shameless plug for our Food page, updated with all restaurants listed on the sidebar for your convenience!)

Thank you, Liz, for changing “featured comment.” My personal feeling is that it should be refreshed at least once every six months, but I always was a neatnick.

You have to admire Ted for at least saying it out loud.
You want to check my pulse? I’ve got a standing rate of 49 beats per minute and I’m ready for anything. Navy Seals got nothing on me. But what would really make my heart beat faster is something SPECIFIC about how to get our fiscal house in order and prioritize all the myriad things we must do to “keep Montclair Montclair.” So far I’ve seen nothing but hot air. Admittedly I have been busy, so please, fellow Baristavillains, tell me if I’ve missed anything.
Hanging out at Crockett’s Fish Fry should not be a requirement for any candidate and neither should having children in the school system. I don’t care where the candidates live. I would love to hear someone, anyone, name 5 specific problems ( I know we have more) and name a specific solution, or set of solutions for each. I would like to know how they would implement those solutions and why they think they are qualified to do so.
Please someone, just fix this mess.
It seem hopeless. None of the candidates are speaking in specifics.

Even the brash Selma Avidicevic, gets coy and retreats when substance arises.
Though, (thank goodness) we know what book she is reading.
Hopeless.
Though to her credit, at least she answered Bonesteel’s (too soft) questions. But then again, she dosen’t really seem interested In putting much information out there.
ROC, you might want to give Ron Paul a call. It’s a win win:
You’d probably really go for him as Montclair Mayor, and he’ll probably have plenty of time on his hands after Super Tuesday.
He can slash the budget, and all those other things you like, and he can natter on an on about an isolationist foreign policy, but not really be able to do much about it- in the capacity of mayor. But at least he’ll look good leading the local parade on July 4th.
Great to see the debate begin virtually… but if you are interested in the real thing… Please come to the Civics & Government Institute Mayoral Debate at Montclair High School on Thursday April 26th at 6:30pm in the LGI where the candidates will be having a discussion about the always important topic of Education in Montclair. It will be moderated by two incredible CGI seniors Gabriella Peterson and Chris Murphy.
They will be offering questions to the candidates that are collected from both the MHS community as well as from the citizens of Montclair.
If you would like to submit a question for consideration, please email questions to cgidebate@gmail.com or via twitter @CGIdebate (and follow @CGIdebate for plenty of discussion about the election.
Hope to see you all there. Thank you.
Like most authors on Baristanet, I will not be there. But I will be drawing reasoned conclusions from factoids I select and the general tone of others on this site.
I am liking Judge and Jury’s posts, even if I may be a target, although I’m no author.

Terrific. I’m hoping the kids can show the adults how it’s done. I’ll be the grossly obese guy sitting next to Judge and Jury.
Just curious: where do the CGI students organizing this event stand on the issue of anonymous posters? Would the CGI moderators pose a question to the candidates even if it was sent anonymously?
