The Miller Street Community Farm, which I had the privilege of visiting two summers ago, is seeking applications from high school students to participate in a unique learning opportunity — helping grow and sell the farm’s vegetables, while gaining invaluable experience in sustainable farming and growing one’s own food.

The Miller Street Community Farm garden is now in its second year. The Farm’s produce is grown and tended to by local students who are assisted by adult volunteers and generous support from TerraNoble Landscape Design, of Glen Ridge.

Applicant requirements are:

• Must be a current High School student
• Enjoy being outdoors/working in the dirt
• Have a desire to learn about growing and selling vegetables
• Must be self-motivated and able to work independently
• Must be available 1 weekday during the summer and most Saturdays from April to October.

If interested, you can download an application form here.

The Miller Street Community Farm is made possible through a coalition of the Montclair Health Department, Essex County 4-H, HOMECorp, Montclair State University, TerraNoble Landscape Design, and the United Way of Northern NJ. It is supported by funding from CapitalOne and the Partners for Health Foundation.
