Alex Kent, the Safe Roues to School Coordinator, sent news and photos from Montclair’s first Bike to School Day, a national event that is part of the Safe Routes to School program, encouraging children to walk or bike to school instead of being driven. Kent said, “The students get exercise, while traffic decreases, and the kids love it. Everyone wins!”
My favorite photo is this one left. It’s Brian and Olivia Champeau. This father and daughter celebrated Olivia’s 8th birthday and her new bike, by biking to Nishuane.
And there are more great photos from today…
Bikes racks overflowed at Edgemont Elementary School. Children who take the bus did a walking lap around Edgemont Park so they could participate, and everyone who biked got marigold seedlings to take home.
Some bikers met at the Montclair Public Library, and then biked on to Nishuane. Young bikers get stickers from parent volunteers.
Hillside kids who participated got to sign their names on these awesome bike posters.
