Baristaville Street Style: Dad’s Edition

Nick Bosco is cool and locally focused down to his cellphone wallpaper: a close-up of a red-dotted grate he snapped on Church Street in Montclair. The branding consultant, graphics designer, and part-time actor, model and singer is the owner of Bosco Design Group. He also finds time to run the Soccerthon at his kids’ school–Hillside Elementary, coaches both of their soccer teams, and performs in the choir at Christ Church. He organized last year’s Montclair Harvest Festival, and is looking for volunteers to help plan the event for 2013.

The divorced dad has custody of his two children, and enjoys shopping with them in Montclair. His son favors The Gap and Urban Outfitters, while his daughter prefers Hip Chic and Warehouse Chic Accessories.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: I like a clean, modern look. Structured, contemporary and powerful, but comfortable. Prada is one of my favorite designers.

Q: What’s one of your most cherished articles of clothing?

The jacket I’m wearing. I wore it to meet the Korean prime minister in 2008 when I visited my birth country with a Korean American leadership group. I was adopted at age two by an Italian family in Chicago where I grew up. It was my first time back to Korea, so the jacket means a lot to me.

Q: Can you tell us about the rest of your outfit?

A: Sure. I’m wearing comfortable old denims, Nike Free running shoes, a dress shirt and a T-shirt I designed for an afro-punk music festival. I love wearing graphic T-shirts, so I started my own business designing them. It’s called Pop Rock & Scissors.

Q: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?

A: Before going out, I look at GQ, Esquire, and music videos to get ideas for something funky to throw into the mix. I like the contrast of a muted-colored jacket over a bright T-shirt.

Q: How would you describe “Montclair style”?

A: Eclectic. But it’s also practical—nothing too outrageous. And we definitely have a New York style sensibility.
