Last week in Montclair crime – a jogger and a house were both the targets of a paintball-wielding prankster.
Burglaries:
On 12/07/2012 at 0825 hours, Officers responded to the Exxon gas station on Bloomfield Avenue on the report of a burglary. Officers were informed by the site foreman that a trailer had been broken into. The gas station is currently closed indefinitely as the gas tanks are being removed. The foreman left the site at 1600 hours on Dec. 6th and locked the temporary gates around the site. They discovered this morning at approx 0800 hours the pad lock to the trailer had been pried open. Stolen were a socket set, a generator, a chop saw, a Sawz-all saw with blades, a drill, drill bits, battery pack and charger for the drill. Anyone with information contact Det. J. On 12/08/2012 at 1503 hours, officers responded to an Orange Road address on a report of a burglary. The homeowner informed officers that someone broke into the home sometime between 1800 hours Dec. 7th and 0830 hours Dec. 8th. Stolen were tools belonging to the contractor renovating the home. Stolen were the following items Dewalt – Table Saw – yellow; worth $350.00, Makita Drill – blue; worth $200.00, Dewalt – Milter Saw – yellow; worth $350.00, Porter Cable – Air Compressor – red; worth $250.00, Bostich – Framing Gun – yellow; worth 320.00 and a Milwaukee – Hand Saw – red; worth $100.00. Entry was made through a basement window that was boarded up. A witness observed two black males wearing dark hooded jackets storing tools in some bushes. They were then seen loading the tools into a mid 90’s dark colored SUV, possibly a Chevy Blazer, parked in front of the driveway of the victim’s home. Anyone with information contact Det. J. Paintball incident:
On 12/08/2012 at 1810 hours, officers responded to the area of Union Street near Harrison Avenue on a report of a jogger being struck by a paint ball. Officers were informed by the jogger that as he was eastbound on the north side of Union Street he was struck on the right shoulder by an orange paint ball. He only heard one shot fired and was uninjured. He observed an Orange SUV with a white roof, possibly a Toyota FJ Cruiser, speed off east toward Harrison Avenue. He was unable to see the occupants or the plate to the vehicle.
On the same date at 1839 hours, officers responded to a Valley Way address on the report of a paint ball fired at the home. The homeowner was sitting in her living room when she heard a loud bang on one of the windows. She inspected and found an orange paint ball mark. The window was not broken.
Thefts:
On 12/05/2012 at 2039 hours, officers responded to the area of 41 New Street on the report of a theft from a motor vehicle. Officers were met by the vehicle owner who stated he parked his work van in front of 41 New Street as he was working in the area. His vehicle was open as he was loading his tools into the van after completing work. When he stepped outside he observed two black males enter through the front passenger door. Both actors were approx 18-19yrs old and about 5’8 thin build wearing black hooded sweat shirts with the hoods covering their hair and face. He yelled to both actors who ran off in different directions. Stolen were 2 Makita circular saws, 2 Devil circular saws, 2 Devil sawzalls and 3 Makita shingle guns. On 12/07/2012 at 0915 hours, officers took a theft report from a Montclair resident.
The complainant reported that while working out at the NY sports club someone stole his Bank of America Visa card from a locker he had his items stored in. The locker was unlocked. Anyone with information contact Det. Singleton at 973 509 4722.
Arrest:
On 12/03/2012 at 1155 hours, officers observed a Chevy Van traveling eastbound on Bloomfield Avenue proceed through a red traffic signal at the intersection of Valley Road and Bloomfield Avenue. A motor vehicle stop was conducted at Midland Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue. A check revealed the driver of the vehicle to be a suspended driver as well as having a $500.00 outstanding traffic warrant out of the city of Passaic. The driver, twenty seven year old Vinicio Hernandez of Paterson, was placed under arrest and held for pick up by Passaic Police Department. He was also issued traffics summonses for driving while suspended and failure to observe a traffic signal.
