The Bloomfield Police Department has issued the following police blotter report, along with a request for information from the public regarding a missing person:
Missing Person Update
On March 30, 2013 The Bloomfield Police Department began investigating a report of a missing person, Nycal Velasquez, age 21, from Bloomfield. On that day the family vehicle was located by The Palisades Interstate Parkway Police in The Fort Lee Historical Park. The vehicle was unoccupied and contained what appeared to be a suicide note inside. Mr. Alberto Velasquez, Nycal’s father, told investigators that his son had taken the family car at 3am, has not returned and that he had been attempting to contact him all day with no success. Nycal is believed to be in possession of his cell phone and laptop computer, which are both believed to be powered off. An extensive search of the area where the family car was located was conducted by The Palisades Parkway Police along with Bergen County Police and Port Authority. So far the search has turned up negative.
Mr. Nycal Velasquez is described as being a 21 year old male, 5’9” tall, 140 lbs., of Filipino decent, black hair, olive colored skin and has tattoos on his right forearm (a tree) and one on his back, (vindicate). Nychal was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap, Blue North Face jacket and jeans.

BURGLARY
04-05-2013 – On the 100 block of Orange St. between 4:00 pm & 10:45 pm the door to an apartment was pried and entry was gained. A Mac Book laptop computer, an I-Pod, a Droid cell phone and a blue Adidas watch were taken.
BURGLARY INTO AUTO
04-02-2013 – On Irving Terr. a 2012 Nissan Altima was broken into and $12.00 in change was taken.
04-07-2013 – On the 200 block of Franklin St. a 2004 Toyota was broken into and a GPS unit was stolen off the dash.
STOLEN VEHICLE
04-01-2013 – On the 500 block of Beardsley Ave. a 2004 Nissan SUV was stolen.
04-04-2013 – on the 200 block of Ampere Parkway a 2001 Nissan was stolen.
04-05-2013 – On the 100 block of Bloomfield Ave. a 2000 Mazda was stolen.
ATTEMPT THEFT AUTO
04-05-2013 – On the 300 block of Ampere Parkway an unknown suspect or suspects unsuccessfully attempted stealing a 1995 Honda. They did however damage the ignition in the process.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
04-01-2013 – On Tunbridge Ave. the owner of a 2013 Jeep reported that an unknown suspect or suspects threw a rock through on of the vehicles windows.
04-04-2013 – On Freemont St. & Austin Pl. the owner of a 2000 Infiniti G20 reported that a rock was thrown through one of his vehicles windows.
04-07-2013 – On the 1600 block of Broad St., the owner of a 2007 Chrysler reported a rear window broken.
ROBBERY
The Bloomfield Police Department Detective Division and Youth Aid Bureau have made several arrests in connection with robberies that occurred on:
1) February 3, 2013 at the Mini Mart, 133 Montgomery St.
2) February 28, 2013 at Swerdlow Liquors, 101 Montgomery St
3) March 8, 2013 near 249 Belleville Ave.
These robberies were reported in the: 2/4/13, 3/4/13 & 3/11/13 Police Blotter respectively.
The arrests were of 3 male juveniles and 1 adult male who was identified as being, Davonte Deans who resides in Bloomfield.
Mr. Deans was charged with robbery for his participation in the Belleville Ave. robbery and his bail was set at $100,000.00. He was transported to Essex County Jail awaiting a court appearance.
In that same robbery all three juveniles were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and transported to the Essex County Youth House. The victim’s watch, which was taken from him during the street robbery on Belleville Ave, was recovered from one of the juveniles and returned to the victim.
In the robberies of The Mini Mart and Liquor Store one of the juveniles involved was charged with 2 counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, while the other juvenile arrestee was charged with 2 counts each of: armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
At this time these are all the details that can be released as the investigation is ongoing.CARJACKING
On April 8, 2013 at 10:38 am a 52 year old Cedar Grove resident was carjacked at gunpoint after she had entered her 2011 Range Rover, in the Shopping Plaza at 135 Bloomfield Ave. The victim reported that after shopping, she entered her vehicle and was unexpectedly approached by the suspect, (described as being a black male in his early 20’s, approximately 5’9” tall and wearing a black hoodie, sweat pants and red mask covering his face) who opened her driver’s side door and pointed a small silver handgun at her. The suspect said to the victim “get out of the car” which she did. The suspect fled east on Bloomfield Ave. with the victim’s car. Bloomfield Officer’s along with Officers from neighboring jurisdictions searched the area with negative results in finding the suspect or the stolen vehicle. The Essex County Prosecutors Office Carjacking/Major Crimes Task Force was notified of the crime and investigators responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The investigation led the Investigators to the area of Loretto St. and Lisa Ct. in the City of Newark where the victim’s vehicle was located unoccupied. Bloomfield Detectives Lt. Joseph Krentz and Chad Smith along with Agents from the Task Force began to canvass the area looking for a suspect. During the canvass, Det. Kilbride of the Task Force observed a male fitting the description of the suspect wanted for questioning in the carjacking. As Det. Lt. Krentz approached the suspect (a 25 year old male) to question him, he fled on foot and was observed by the Lt. and Task Force Agent Alongi, remove a silver handgun from his waistband and toss it to the ground. A short distance later the suspect was apprehended.
The suspect was charged with the possession of the handgun after his arrest and an investigation into his possible connection with the carjacking is ongoing.
Further details can not be released at this time as the investigation is continuing.Suspicious Condition / Possible Shots Fired
On April 5, 2013 at 11:00 pm Officers Devin Lopez and Georgio Antinori were dispatched to a call of possible shots fired on the 100 block of Bloomfield Ave. When the Officers arrived on scene and interviewed witnesses, they were told that a few loud bangs were heard in the area and that they believed the bangs were gunshots. The Officers did locate shell casing in the area where the witnesses had described the incident taking place and they were collected and taken as evidence. No further details can be released at this time as the incident is still under active investigation.

04-06-2013 – Richard Burwell of East Orange was arrested for shoplifting.
04-06-2013 – Charon Kitt of East Strousberg Pennsylvania was arrested for warrants.
04-07-2013 – Ricardo Meddieta-Morocho of Newark was arrested for DWI.
