Police have arrested an Essex Fells man for allegedly assaulting his father with a hammer.

Essex Fells Police Officers were called to 27 Fellscrest Road yesterday morning on reports of a suicidal male. Officers arrived to find John Mekell, 46, of the same address, holding a knife to his throat and threatening to kill himself. The officers were able to talk him out of harming himself. Mekell then informed officers that his father was in need of help inside the house.

Inside the home, officers found the elder John Mekeel on the kitchen floor with severe head trauma; he was transported to Morristown Memorial hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The younger Mekeel was taken in to custody an charged by police with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a weapon. A bloodstained hammer was found at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the Prosecutor’s homicide task force and the Essex Fells Police.

    If you can’t, or won’t, hire a full-blown editor, how about at least a “grammar coach” of some sort?
