five acre farmsIf you’ve enjoyed a latte, cappuccino or any coffee with milk at  Java Love in Montclair, you’ve had Five Acre Farms milk. If you came out to our BaristaNight fundraiser and tasted the warm and delicious apple cider, you’ve enjoyed Five Acre Farms products too.

Five Acre Farms’ tagline is “Bringing the Farmers Market to the Supermarket.”  The brand brings local food from various farms to grocery stores, or to shops like Java Love in Montclair. Everything comes from within 275 miles. They find  farmers using sustainable practices, pay them fairly and tell their stories.

five acres farmsCurrently Five Acre Farms sells milk, cream, eggs, apple juice, apple sauce and apple cider. The milk is rich and creamy and you can immediately see and  taste the difference between it and other milks. It should be noted that Five Acre Farms doesn’t have an organic line yet, but  the milk is Grade A, pasteurized and homogenized, and doesn’t contain any added hormones or antibiotics. All of their farmers use sustainable farming practices, grow all of their own feed, and their cows are not treated with rBST or preventive antibiotics.

five acres farmsFive Acre Farms founder and CEO Dan Horan, Brooklyn resident, has been working in food and farming for more than 22 years. In 1990, he founded Waldingfield Farm, an organic vegetable farm in Washington, Connecticut. Dan recruited his younger brothers to join him, and Waldingfield Farm continues to operate to this day.

Want to try Five Acre Farms for yourself? Other than getting a delicious latte at Java Love, you can purchase pints of Five Acre Farms cider at Kings in Upper Montclair and all of their products (including cage free eggs and shelf-stable apple juice) are available at Fairway in Woodland Park.

You can also sample the products at Java Love this Saturday when they host a milk and apple cider tasting event for Five Acre Farms from 10 am-2 pm.
