This week’s Bloomfield crime blotter from Sgt. Anthony J. Servedio:
ROBBERY
On February 22, 2015 a Chinese food restaurant, The Chopstick House located at 2 Bloomfield Avenue was robbed at gunpoint. A 40 year old male employee of the restaurant reported to police 12:08 am, that a dark-skinned Hispanic male entered the restaurant, placed a black handgun on the counter and took three hundred dollars that was near the register. The suspect exited the restaurant and entered the passenger side of a grey or black SUV and fled south on N 13th Street. The suspect was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt and a white scarf covering his face.

On February 18, 2015 a 19 year old Ella Street resident reported to police that he interrupted a suspect at 11:41 am trying to burglarize his residence. The victim observed the suspect attempting to open a basement window of his home and when the suspect realized that the victim was home and caught him trying to enter, he fled the area on foot.
12/19/15 The superintendent of an apartment building on the 100 block of Franklin Street reported to police that he discovered an ex-tenant, who had broken into his building, hiding in the basement at 10:24 pm. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
THEFT FROM AUTO2/22/2015 – On Parkway East between the hours of 7:00 pm and 10:10 am an unknown suspect entered two vehicles parked in a driveway and stole a GPS unit, a hunting knife, and $5.00 in change.
STOLEN AUTO
2/16/15 – On the lower end of Belleville Avenue a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta with NJ license plates was stolen between 5:00 pm 2/16/15 and 7:50 am 2/17/15.
NOTE: The vehicle was recovered on the 600 block of East Passaic Avenue at 5:13 pm on 2/17/15.2/22/2015 – On Parkway East a 2007 Volkswagen with NJ license plates was stolen between 6:30 pm and 11:00 pm.
THEFT
2/17/15 – On the lower end of Orange Street a resident reported that two ladders and a wheel barrel were stolen from the side of his home.
2/17/2015 – On the 100 block of Baldwin Street a resident reported that between 2;00 pm on 2/14/15 and 7:15 am on 2/17/15 someone stole the license plate off of his vehicle.
2/18/15 – On the 100 block of Raab Avenue a resident reported that a Samsung 240G hard drive was delivered to his home by the USPS on 2/3/15. The victim claims to have been home at the time of the delivery however the package was never received and was apparently stolen.
2/18/2015 – On the lower end of Hill Street a resident reported that between 12:30 pm and 4:00 pm, two packages left on his front porch for pick up by the USPS were stolen.
2/19/2015 – On Ward Street an employee of a local business reported that she placed her pocketbook down next to her work station at 8:10 am and when she looked into the pocketbook at 10:17 am, she noticed that $840.00 had been stolen.
2/20/2015 – On the 400 block of Bloomfield Avenue an employee of a local business purchased a cell phone at 12:15 am from a customer. The victim stated that at 2:30 am the customer returned and asked the victim if he could retrieve some phone numbers off of the cell phone. A short time after the victim gave the cell phone back to the suspect, the suspect walked out of the store and got into the driver seat of a vehicle and fled the scene with the phone.
ARRESTS
2/16/2015 – Joel Marte age 28 of Paterson was arrested by Paterson Police and turned over to the custody of Officers Raymond Diaz and Nicholas Mauriello at 12:15 am for an outstanding $500.00 warrant out of Bloomfield. Mr. Marte was processed for his warrant and waiting to be transported to The Essex County Jail pending bail or a court appearance.
2/16/2015 – Alvin Hilliard age 34 of Montclair was arrested by Officer Meljunn Pascua at 12:54 am on Bloomfield Avenue near Berkeley Place after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an outstanding warrant out of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Hilliard was processed on his warrant and being detained until he could be turned over to the custody of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.
2/16/2015 – Michael Burney age 44 of East Orange was arrested by Officers Jennifer Horn and Argenis Vargas at 10:59 pm on Watsessing Avenue near franklin Street after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of an outstanding $250.00 East Orange warrant. Mr. Burney was processed for his warrant, posted bail and was released.
2/18/2015 – Malik Jordan age 33 of Newark was arrested by Officers Luca Piscitelli and Salvatore Cordi at 10:36 am on John F. Kennedy Drive near Bloomfield Avenue for:
Possession of marijuana (under 50 grams) Being under the influence of CDS (marijuana After the officers conducted a motor vehicle stop and interviewed of Mr. Jordan they developed reason to believe that he was under the influence of a CDS and that he was in possession of a substance that they believed was marijuana. Mr. Jordan was placed under arrest, transported to Police HQ’s, processed and released ROR with a court date of 3/4/15 pending.
2/18/2015 – Yannick Layne age 24 of Bloomfield was arrested by Officers Thomas Lutz and Gemnar Rosales at 9:55 pm on the 100 block of Washington Street for having an outstanding $125.00 Bloomfield warrant. Mr. Layne was processed, posted bail and was released with a court date pending.
2/19/2015 – James Boyne age 64 of Bloomfield and Robert Hock age 72 of Bloomfield were both arrested for outstanding Bloomfield warrants after a team of Bloomfield Detectives located the men in a home on the 100 block of Spruce Street. Mr. Hock was processed and released ROR with a court date pending while Mr. Boyne was being detained for a court appearance later in the day.
2/19/2015 – John Sykes age 24 of Bloomfield was arrested by officers Dominick Sodano and Salvatore Cordi for an outstanding $3500.00 warrant with a 10% cash bail option. Mr. Sykes posted bail and was released with a new court date pending.
2/19/2015 – Eric Albornoz age 42 of West Orange was arrested by Detective Jeffrey Alfonso after he turned himself in for a $500.00 warrant. Mr. Albornoz posted bail and was released with a new court date pending.
2/19/2015 – Angel Alicea age 24 of Bloomfield was arrested by Detective James Peri after he turned himself in for an outstanding warrant. Mr. Alicea was released after making a restitution payment to the court of $500.00.
2/20/2015 – David Parks age 35 of Bloomfield was arrested by Officer Matthew Rubbinaccio at 12:02 am after a motor vehicle stop on Broad Street near Eaton Place led to the discovery of an outstanding $250.00 warrant out of Kearney. Mr. Parks was processed for his warrant, posted bail and was released.
2/20/2015 – Jeffrey Pena-Rodriguez age 22 of Bloomfield was arrested by Officers Raymond Diaz and Nicholas Mauriello at 1:28 am after a motor vehicle stop on State Street near Liberty Street led the officers to believe that Mr. Pena-Rodriguez had operated his 2015 Honda while impaired. Mr. Pena-Rodriguez was processed, issued summonses and released with a court date pending.
2/20/2015 – Josef Campbell age 35 of Bloomfield was arrested by Officer Thomas Lutz at 2:58 am after a motor vehicle stop on Bloomfield Avenue near Belmont Avenue led to the discovery of outstanding warrants from Bloomfield $350.00 and Passaic $1000.00. Mr. Campbell was processed for his warrants, posted bail and was released with new court dates pending.
2/20/2015 – Robert Restaino age 63 of Bloomfield turned himself in to Detective Thomas Fano at 10:36 am for an outstanding $500.00 Bloomfield warrant. The Honorable Judge John Paparazzo released Mr. Restaino ROR with a court date of 3/31/15 pending.
2/20/2015 – Kenneth Walker age 45 of Newark was arrested by Officer Michael McCracken at 5:13 pm after allegedly shoplifting $70.00 worth of merchandise from the Stop & Shop, 8 Franklin Street. During the arrest process it was discovered that Mr. Walker was in possession of items believed to be CDS paraphernalia and that he also had two outstanding warrants from Bloomfield totaling $600.00. Mr. Walker was processed and charged with:
Shoplifting Possession of CDS paraphernalia A $1000.00 bail with a 10% cash option was set by the Honorable Judge Vincent Pirone and a 2/24/15 court date was pending.
2/22/2015 – Christopher Medina age 19 of Bloomfield, Taquan Williams age 19 of East Orange and Jaquan Boyd age 19 of Bloomfield were all arrested by Officers Matthew Popowicz, Jennifer Horn and Nader Sarabamoun at 5:20 pm on Franklin Street near Watsessing Avenue. The officers responding to a tip from a concerned citizen that several males were smoking marijuana in the area of the 100 block of Ella Street located a 2002 Acura leaving the area occupied by the above named suspects and conducted a motor vehicle stop. During the interview process it was determined by the officers that the driver, Christopher Medina, was in possession of a substance they believed to be marijuana in a motor vehicle and under the influence of a CDS, marijuana, and subsequently placed under arrest. The other two passengers were also found to be in possession of a substance believed to be marijuana and they were also placed under arrest. All of the men were transported to police HQ’s, processed and released ROR with a court date of 2/24/2015 pending.
2/22/2015 – Gerald Salters Jr. age 53 of Newark was arrested by Officer Keron Piper at 6:31 pm after allegedly shoplifting $101.60 worth of merchandise from the Stop & Shop, 8 Franklin Street. During the arrest process it was discovered that Mr. Salters also had an outstanding $500.00 warrant out of Belleville. Mr. Salters was processed, charged with shoplifting and released ROR for his Bloomfield charges with a court date of 2/26/15 pending then turned over to the custody of Belleville Police to answer for his charges in their jurisdiction.
2/23/2015 – Corey Arroyo age 25 of Newark turned himself in to Detective Lieutenant Patsy Spatola at 9:10 am for an outstanding $500.00 warrant. Mr. Arroyo was able to post the 10% bail option and was released with a new court date pending.
2/23/2015 – Esteban Barrett age 48 was arrested by Officer Luca Piscitelli and Sergeant Joseph Corio at 11:10 am for Trespassing on Home Depot property, 60 Orange Street. After being alerted by a Loss prevention Officer that Mr. Barrett had previously been warned not to return to Home Depot property and that he was in fact back Officer Piscitelli and Sergeant Corio located the suspect and placed him under arrest for Defiant Trespassing. During the arrest process it was also discovered that Mr. Barrett had an outstanding $5000.00 warrant out of Newark, which he was released ROR for and several outstanding Bloomfield warrants. Although Mr. Barrett was released ROR by the Honorable Judge John Paparazzo for the Trespassing charge he was being detained on the three active outstanding warrants pending bail or a court appearance.
2/23/2015 – Christopher Washington age 21 of Newark was arrested by Officer Thomas Lutz at 10:03 pm on the 300 block of Bloomfield Avenue after a motor vehicle stop led to the discovery of a substance believed to be marijuana in his possession. During the arrest process it was also discovered that Mr. Washington had an outstanding warrant out of orange, NJ. Mr. Washington was transported to Police HQ’s where he was processed and charged with possession of CDS, marijuana under 50 grams. Bail was set by the Honorable Judge Vincent Pirone at $1000.00 with a 10% cash option available which Mr. Washington was able to post. Mr. Washington was turned over to the custody of Orange Police to answer for his charges in their jurisdiction and a court date is also pending in Bloomfield.
