The Junior League of Montclair-Newark, Inc. invites you to join them tonight for Pampering With a Purpose, a Ladies’ Night Out at SPAtique salon in Montclair featuring massages, champagne, confections and charity. All proceeds from the fabulous night of fun will benefit domestic violence shelters in Essex County.

Guffaws for PAWS – An Evening of Comedy

Go out for an evening of laughs to support a good cause on Friday night at Guffaws for PAWS – An Evening of Comedy. Comics Mark Riccadonna, Harris Bloom, and Brian Jian will perform at the benefit show to support PAWS of Montclair, a rescue and sheltering organization that has been serving Montclair and the surrounding communities for 37 years. PAWS is dedicated to finding forever homes for at-risk cats and dogs, promoting spay-neuter and humane education.

Man of LaManchaThe Montclair Operetta Club will present “Man of La Mancha” beginning this weekend at Westminster Arts Center in Bloomfield. The musical, with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, is a play within a play based on the Cervantes novel “Don Quixote.” It tells the story of the “mad” knight, Don Quixote, performed by Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing before the Spanish Inquisition.

Billy HectorOn Saturday, Billy Hector will perform his “sultry slidework, picking, and cranking and crunching Blues on his beloved vintage Fender Stratocaster at Tierney’s in Montclair. Hector is a winner of the Asbury Park Music Awards “Best Guitarist”, “Best Blues Band” and “Living Legend” awards. He’s also a two-time winner of the East Coast Rocker’s “Best Guitarist” award. Go enjoy this guitar extravaganza!

Arco Ensemble

Enlow Hall, located on Kean University’s East Campus, presents the Arco Ensemble to perform “Under the Italian Sun,” featuring the virtuoso New Jersey string orchestra Arco Ensemble, on April 19. The program will highlight music by Italian composers and will be conducted by the vibrant young Canadian, Jean-Marie Zeitouni. Zeitouni, is currently the artistic director of I Musici Montreal and music director of the Colorado Music Festival. He has conducted symphonic, opera, choral, and chamber orchestra performances widely in Canada and the United States. Works to be performed include a string orchestra version of Guiseppe Verdi’s String Quartet, the Concerto for Strings by Nino Rota, and Ottorino Respighi’s Il Tramonto, a song based on Percy Bysshe Shelley’s poem “The Sunset.” Guest soloist for the Respighi will be highly acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Abigail Fischer.

unnamed (3)The Bloomfield Cultural Commission, in conjunction with the Woman’s Club of Bloomfield, will host “Vittles and Fiddles” on Sunday, April 19. Featured in this Blue Grass celebration will be “The Ramapo Valley Ramblers,” who will provide a foot stomping, guitar strumming, food grubbing good time. Chili, wings, cornbread, beer, wine and soda will be served!
