Cocomama

Quick, grab your keys and head out! Cocomama performs at Newark Museum’s this afternoon. This New York City based group features women from Mexico, Cuba, Israel, France, Argentina, Oregon and Wisconsin. Formed in 2008 by the percussionist Mayra Casales – who has worked with Regina Carter and Carmen Lundy – they are heavily influenced by the musical traditions of Cuba, Brazil, South and North America. Cocomama released its debut recording Quiero (Truth Revolution Records) in 2015.

In EXILED by Elaine Insinnia a nursing home resident is exiled to her room for bad behavior and three resident friends pull out all the stops to spring her. OFF-BALANCE by Rosa Soy tell the story of three former college friends who gather for a birthday party and instead of trivial pursuits, end up with truth or dare.

Peruvian singer, Lula Valdivia, continues to entrance audiences at Trumpets with her renditions of traditional Bolerso, Afro-Peruvian Jazz, and Brazilian and Spanish standards. The menu will feature specials that include papas a la huancaina, ceviche, guacamole, salsa, empanadas, arroz y frijoles, quesadillas and sangría.

Gerry MastroliaAnother installment of “Music at the Mansion,” returns on Sunday at the Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center. The series showcases talented performers from NYC and NJ and is hosted by NYC Cabaret singer and Bloomfield resident Corinna Sowers-Adler and features Deborah Martin on piano. Performers this Sunday include Gerry Mastrolia, Nathan Chang and Sue Matsuki. Gerry Mastrolia hails from North Jersey and has been performing in Musical Theatre since the age of 9. Some of his favorite roles include… Edna (Hairspray), Horton (Seussical), John Brooke (Little Women) and Jason Willette in Rabbit Hole, just to name a few. Nathan Chang is over the moon to be a part of the Music at the Mansion series! As a self-proclaimed writer of “silly songs”, his music has garnered him a Bistro Award, a MAC award nomination and he has had the honor to perform his work at Jazz at Lincoln Center for the 25th Annual Cabaret Convention. Sue Matsuki is a 10-time MAC Award Nominee/3 time recipient (in 6 different categories). Her “wins” were for: Female Jazz Vocalist; Special Productions for 10 Years in the Making and for Specialty Song, “One Stop Shopping” by Matsuki/Toroian/Page.
