Attention book lovers — we have your weekend plans! The 2nd annual Morristown Festival of Books will feature more than 25 authors on the evening of Friday, October 2, and all day Saturday, October 3. Authors will speak and answer questions for one hour at one of several convenient Morristown locations. Book sales and signings, following author presentations, will occur at a tent on the grounds of the historic Vail Mansion.
The Festival kicks off with award-winning, husband-and-wife team Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. Kristof and WuDunn, the first married couple to win a Pulitzer Prize for journalism, will be the Keynote Speakers on Friday, October 2 at 7:30 pm at the Mayo Performing Arts Center, South Street, Morristown.
New York Times columnist since 2001, Kristof is also a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner. He and his wife, Sheryl WuDunn, a former Times journalist and the first Asian-American reporter to win a Pulitzer, received worldwide recognition for their coverage of China’s Tiananmen Square movement. They were awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1990 for their coverage of Tiananmen Square and in 2009 they received the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for Lifetime Achievement. Kristof won his second Pulitzer in 2006 for his coverage of the genocide in Darfur. Together they have co-authored three other best-selling books: China Wakes: The Struggle for the Soul of a Rising Power in 1994; Thunder from the East: Portrait of a Rising Asia in 2000; and Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide in 2009.
