Here’s what else is happening this weekend:
The Flemtones will perform at Tierney’s in Montclair on Friday night. Queen V will open. The Flemtones play an eclectic mix of rock n roll cover tunes that stylistically include blues, r&b, roots rock, folk, country, pop, and a little bit of funk or jazz thrown in for good measure. They have been playing together in various incarnations and under a few different names (to stay a step ahead of the law) since they met at MHS in the mid-1970’s.

Shuffle, Jump & Moan — a compilation band comprised of United Jersey Blues Network performers that play in other top area bands — will perform at Hat City Kitchen in Orange on Friday night. Their style of the music covers traditional blues from masters like T-Bone, Gatemouth Spaan and BB. Plus covers tracks from contemporary greats like Clapton, Cray, Lang, Stevie Ray and more.

Basemeant WRX will host a full day of fun on Saturday. Local Montlcair Comedian Francesco Paladino will perform. Coming off his sold out show at The Metropolitan Room, Francesco says “Prepare to laugh at totally inappropriate jokes.” Joining Francesco is musical opening act Vincent DiGeronimo. Earlier in the day, as an additional treat for the younger crowd, Sunshien Sam —the battery-free toy store in Bloomfield — will have a Pop-Up shop selling great toys, games, decor, and more. Plus, kids can make Valentines for their class parties.

The NJ premiere of “A Thousand and One Journeys: The Arab Americans,” a documentary directed and produced by Montclair resident Abe Kasbo will screen at Seton Hall University on Sunday. At the conclusion of the screening, there will be a Q&A session. “A Thousand and One Journeys: The Arab Americans” shares the untold story of almost 200 years of the contributions made to the American fabric by those who immigrated to the United States from the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf. The film provides viewers with a first-ever documentary of the Arab-American experience as told through the eyes of famous and everyday people, including: the late Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Anthony Shadid; Former Majority Leader Sen. George Mitchell, who served as U.S. Special Envoy for Northern Ireland and Middle East Peace; comedians and natives of New Jersey Dean Obeidallah and Maysoon Zayid; consumer advocate and former presidential candidate Ralph Nader; American racing legend Bobby Rahal; composer and pianist Malek Jandali; the late White House correspondent and journalist Helen Thomas; actor and M*A*S*H star Jamie Farr; and actor and founder of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Danny Thomas.

Breaking Benjamin will perform an Unplugged show at The Wellmont Theater on Sunday. The rock band from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania has been described as “mixing heavy hard rock dynamics with a moody demeanor that never slips into full-on dejection.”

Garrison Keillor, award-winning theatrical storyteller and host of public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion, performs an evening of homespun humor at NJPAC on Sunday. Grammy winner Garrison Keillor counts more than 17 million listeners among his fans and has performed in concert halls and with orchestras throughout the country (with Philip Brunelle) as a member of The Hopeful Gospel Quartet and on tour broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion.For this performance, he will be joined by keyboardist, composer and arranger Rich Dworsky, leader of The Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band on A Prairie Home Companion.

Bloomfield’s own music series, “Music at the Mansion” is celebrating its five year anniversary on Sunday with a Victorian Tea followed by an all-star line up of singers at at the beautiful Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center. “Music at the Mansion” began in 2012 and quickly received a MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) award nomination for best series. It’s hosted by NYC Cabaret singer and Bloomfield resident Corinna Sowers Adler and features Deborah Martin on piano. The performance will feature the talents of Sarah Rice, Stearns Matthews, Sean Harkness, Broadway Actress Rosemary Loar, Bloomfield very own super talent, Mark Szep and many other surprise artists.
