Upper Montclair Boxing ClubThe Upper Montclair Boxing Club, a boxing and movement studio dedicated to specialized personal and group training, has opened and will host an Open House this Saturday, April 2 from 10 am – 12 pm.

UMBC is founded by Ian Bate, a former member of the U.K. Olympic Boxing Team, Regional U.K. Champion and Hong Kong Champion, who moved to Montclair four years ago. Bate is passionate about boxing, its art and its ability to make a positive impact on the lives of people who practice from kids to adults. Bate has also partnered with NJAPE, an awarded inclusive movement organization that provides direct sports and fitness training for adults and kids with and without disabilities, and currently has 5 clients with special needs who train with him.

Whether you train one-on-one or in a group class, you’ll learn the art of boxing by working with Bate. There’s no sparring involved (or no ring), but you do get to hit the pads during a simulated training session. You’ll learn to bob and weave, some fancy footwork, and how to throw a killer punch. Classes are an hour long for adults and 45 minutes for kids ages 8 – 15. There are no monthly membership fees. Personal Training Sessions are $75 per hour for adults and $65 for kids. Sessions are discounted if you purchased 6 or more class packages, which also get you hand wraps and a pair of gloves.
