Theft

09/19/2016- Khalid Smith age 39 of Newark was arrested at 2:49pm and charged with shoplifting at the Stop & Shop store located at 8 Franklin Street. Mr. Smith was observed walking around in the store and placing items into a brown bag. Police arrived and transported Mr. Smith to headquarters. He was issued a summons and ROR.

09/20/2016- (2) Bicycles were reported stolen from a garage on Floyd Avenue. The bikes are described as blue Tony Hawk limited addition BMX with orange pegs and mag wheels. The bikes were last seen approximately three weeks ago inside the garage.

09/22/2016- Royal King age 23 of Bloomfield NJ was arrested at 9:45am and charged with Shoplifting. Home Depot Loss Prevention Officer observed Mr. King place several sanding disc’s valued at 169.00 in a bag and attempted to leave the store. Bloomfield Police arrived and transported Mr. King to headquarters where he was processed, issued a summons and ROR with a pending court date.

09/23/2016- Octavian Williams age 37 of East Orange was arrested and charged with Theft. Ms. William’s arrest was a result of an ongoing investigation by Home Depot Loss Prevention. Ms. Williams a cashier employed by Home Depot stole money from the register on several different occasions. The incidents occurred in the months of August and September, which totaled $1,766.00 dollars. She was issued a summons and ROR with a pending court date.

09/25/2016- Alysha Murray age 29 of Irvington and John Russo age 39 of Belleville were arrested at 4:30pm and charged with shoplifting. Police were dispatched to 8 Franklin Street Stop & Shop Store on 2 shoplifters in custody. Loss Prevention observed both suspects conceal merchandise and attempted to exit the store. Both were transported to police headquarters and charged accordingly. Mr. Russo was transported to East Brunswick PD on an outstanding warrant. Ms. Murray was transported to East Orange PD on an outstanding warrant.

09/25/2016- A 10-speed mountain bike was reported stolen from the backyard of a residence on Belleville Avenue. The theft occurred overnight.

CDS

09/21/2016- Police were alerted to narcotic activity which had taken place in the Dunkin Donut parking lot at JFK North and Franklin Street. Descriptive information was provided on the parties involved and their vehicles. PO Anthony Batelli and PO Joseph Finkler observed one of the vehicles fitting the description exiting the parking lot. A motor vehicle stop was conducted which led to the discovery of (4) clear zip lock sandwich bags containing marijuana. A silver and copper pipe with marijuana reside was also located inside the vehicle. The driver Deborah Santiago age 47 of Montclair was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. Ms. Santiago was charged with Possession of CDS 25.5 grams of marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was ROR with a pending court date. An Outstanding Montclair warrant was also discovered which she was also ROR with a new court date.

09/21/2016- Damion Thomas age 20 of East Orange was arrested at 11:43pm and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. PO Joseph Condito observed a white Honda traveling on Bloomfield Avenue with several equipment violations. After conducting a motor vehicle stop, PO Condito detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. A small bag containing marijuana residue was located with Mr. Thomas claiming ownership. Mr. Thomas a passenger in the vehicle was transported to police headquarters. An East Orange warrant was also discovered in the amount of $350.00 dollars. Mr. Thomas was held awaiting the arrival East Orange

09/23/2016- Maximillian Monterosa age 19 of Bloomfield was arrested at 9:00am by PO Jonathan Donker and PO Ratliff. Officers were dispatched to Spruce Street on a reported male sleeping behind the wheel with the engine running. Officers arrived on scene and discovered the male identified as Mr. Monterosa sleeping inside the vehicle. Officers observed in plain view a marijuana cigar on the center console. Mr. Monterosa was awakened and placed under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was issued a summons and ROR.

Criminal Mischief

09/23/2016-09/24/2016 Several parked vehicles were reportedly keyed overnight. The incidents occurred on LaFrance Avenue and Chester Avenue. Vehicles parked on Grove Street were also damaged with the owners discovering white paint on the vehicles.

DUI

09/20/2016- Luis Crespo age 36 of Bloomfield was arrested at 12:59am and charged with DUI. Sgt. Luca Piscitelli responded to the area of Gillespie Rd. and Ridge Ave on a report of a driver slumped over the wheel in the middle of the intersection. The vehicle a beige Toyota was located with the engine running with the driver Luis Crespo slumped over in the driver seat. Mr. Crespo was sleeping with the vehicle in drive. Sgt. Piscitelli woke Mr. Crespo and was able to safely place the car in park. Sgt. Piscitelli’s observations along Mr. Crespo’s impaired state led him to believe he was under the influence of a narcotic analgesic. Discovered inside the vehicle were (2) glassine envelopes commonly used to package heroin. The vehicle was impounded and Mr. Crespo was transported to police headquarters. He was additionally charged with Driving while Suspended, Careless Driving and Obstructing the Passage of Other Vehicles. Mr. Crespo was ROR and released into the custody of a friend.

09/24/2016-Shelli Flaherty age 54 of Bloomfield was arrested at 1:28am by Sgt. Luca Piscitelli and charged with DUI. Ms. Flaherty was traveling in the opposite direction on Broad Street with her vehicle headlights off. A motor vehicle stop was conducted which led to her arrest. Sgt. Piscitelli’s detected an odor of alcohol emanating from Ms. Flaherty’s breath. Several field sobriety tests were conducted which led Sgt. Piscitelli to believe the Ms. Flaherty was driving under the influence. Ms. Flaherty was transported to police headquarters where she provided the officers with her sister’s name due to her driver license being suspended. She was charged with DUI, Hindering Apprehension issued summons for driving while suspended and failure to use headlights.

Burglary

09/19/2016- A diversionary burglary was reported on Overlook Terrace. The homeowner was approached by (2) white male suspects claiming to be from the water department. Suspects entered the house with one suspect checking the kitchen faucet and the other suspect walked around the house. The two men then left in a hurry with the homeowner later discovering a small safe had been moved from its original location. No items were reported missing. Detective Bureau actively investigation incident.

09/20/2016- A residence on Weaver Ave was burglarized during the daytime hours. The homeowner left at 8:15am returning home at 6:15pm, discovering their bedrooms and living room had been ransacked. Actor(s) gained entry by breaking a rear kitchen window. The homeowners reported numerous pieces of jewelry, sunglasses and electronics were missing from their home. Detectives actively investigating incident.

09/20/2016- An apartment on Belleville Avenue was burglarized between the hours of 7am and 10pm. The homeowner discovered closet doors open with his jackets on the floor and the draws of his bedroom dresser had been ransacked. The homeowner reported several pieces of jewelry and a bucket of mix coins missing from the apartment. The apartment front door deadbolt appeared to be compromised which was the point of entry.

09/23/2016-A homeowner on Abington Ave reported an attempted burglary occurring at approximately 2:30 in the afternoon. The homeowner discovered a black male sitting on his back porch. The suspect then fled hopping a fence towards Abington Avenue. The homeowner discovered a basement window broken. Detective Bureau actively investigating incident.

Warrant Arrest

09/19/2016- Asia Knight age 23 of Newark NJ was arrested for an outstanding traffic warrant out of Newark. The discovery of the warrant was a result of a motor vehicle stop. Officers on patrol observed a vehicle with its emergency blinkers on driving in a slow manner. The driver Asia Knight did not have a valid driver license. The vehicle was legally parked and Ms. Knight was issued a motor vehicle summons for unlicensed driver and Newark issued a ROR with a new court date for the warrant.

09/20/2016- Steven Ottenwalder age 27 of Bloomfield NJ was arrested at 6:23pm by PO George Bambera. A motor vehicle stop for an unregistered vehicle led to Mr.Ottenwalders arrest for an active Belleville warrant. Mr. Ottenwalder was issued a summons for fictitious plates and released with a new court date after posting bail.

09/24/2016- Annette Blount age 40 of Bloomfield walked into police headquarters to turn herself in on several active traffic warrants. She was processed and released with a new court date after posting bail for all warrants.

Suspicious Activity

09/20/2016- Police were dispatched to Chapman Street on a suspicious person in the area. A witness observed a black male wearing a cap, large sunglasses and sweatpants walking up to several houses. The person never gained access into the homes and eventually left the area in a van. No other descriptions were available. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 in the morning but was reported several hours later.

09/20/2016- Police were dispatched to Baldwin Place on (2) suspicious parties soliciting in the area. Officers located both parties who had proper identification. They were advised of the Town Ordinance and how to obtain a permit. Both parties were dispersed without incident.

09/21/2016- Police were dispatched to Osborne Street on a suspicious incident. The caller reported she was involved in a road rage incident at State Street and Liberty Street and was then followed by a female driving a maroon vehicle. The caller stated she pulled into her driveway at which time the suspicious vehicle passed her house and left the area without any further incident.

Motor Vehicle Theft & Attempts

09/22/2016- 2007 Dodge Charger was reported stolen from Berkeley Avenue. The registered owner stated his vehicle was parked in his driveway last night at 11pm and discovered missing the next morning. The vehicle was later recovered in the Township of Nutley with the arrest of Joshua Lang-Davila age 30 of Newark. Joshua Lang-Davila age 30 of Newark was additional charged with Thefts from motor vehicles occurring overnight on Watsessing Avenue and Fontaine Avenue. Both incidents occurred on 09/22/2016.

09/24/2016-2001 Chrysler Van was reported stolen from Columbus Street. The vehicle was last seen parked on the street at 3am and discovered missing a few hours later.
