Montclair to Host Compost Give-Back Oct 26Montclair residents may pick-up free compost, buy low-cost compost bins and rain barrels, and learn about greener and healthier yard care at the annual “Compost Give-Back” in Edgemont Park on Saturday, October 29, from 10 am – 2 pm.

Nature’s Choice, the Township’s composting facility, has generously donated a pile of their professionally-made compost for the event, made from leaves and grass clippings collected curbside around town. Residents may take home up to 36-gallons (bring your own bags and shovels) of beautiful “black gold” for their gardens, backyards, and houseplants.

The Township purchases “Earth Machine” compost bins (retailing at around $100) at wholesale, and offers them at cost – to residents only — for just $57. Compost aerators (for turning) will also be on sale ($15), plus leaf “corrals” ($30) for holding leaves throughout the year.

WaterWise Montclair strongly encourages water conservation, so Montclair Water Utility is sponsoring deep-discount sales on “Ivy” Rain Barrels (retailing around $140) to be sold for just $39 to township residents — over $100 savings.

Information will be available on healthy and sustainable yard care, including: growing beautiful, water-wise lawns and gardens without harmful or water-polluting chemicals; local stormwater protection; turning backyards into attractive habitats for birds and butterflies; the benefits of native plants; and, growing healthy food.
