Ron Kaplan, author of “Hank Greenberg in 1938: Hatred and Home Runs in the Shadow of War,” will speak about Greenberg at Bnai Keshet’s Kaplan Minyan on Saturday morning, May 20. The Kaplan Minyan, which meets in the Red Gables historic house across the parking lot from the synagogue’s main building, begins at 10:30 a.m. with selected songs and readings.

Greenberg, who was on track to break Babe Ruth’s home run record, was a frequent object of anti-Semitism from Detroit Tigers fans and teammates alike; he became an important symbol for American Jews worried about Hitler’s takeover in Europe, according to a release from Bnai Keshet.
