Bring on the weekend! July is here and there are plenty of fun events and activities happening around the area. We’ve rounded up a bunch of them right here for you. Check ‘em out!

The Clairidge Bow-Tie Cinemas will show the classic 1982 film, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, on Saturday and Sunday at 11:00 AM. Elliott, a young boy living with his older brother, younger sister, and their single mother, discovers an alien in the backyard and attempts to help him return home. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg and is rated PG.

 

 

Barnes & Noble at Clifton Commons (395 Route 3 East, Clifton) will host a BE QUIET! Storytime on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Rupert the Mouse wants to star in a beautiful, wordless picture book, but his friends won’t stop talking! Enjoy this hilarious new book by acclaimed author Ryan T. Higgins. Activities will follow.

Join Jason Didner & the Jungle Gym Jam at Rock-n-Recycle on Saturday at 11:00 AM. The event will be held at the Springfield Avenue Gazebo next to the Maplewood Public Library (1688 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood). Bring your used compact fluorescent light bulbs, Styrofoam, cell phones and rechargeable batteries to be recycled. Enjoy the music of the band and rock out to their new song “Forever in a Landfill” to help kids learn about protecting the Earth.

MOMIX, a company of dancer-illusionists, will perform “Opus Cactus” on Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM at The Joyce Theater (175 Eighth Avenue at 19th Street, NYC). The performance is a cross of dance, circus and theater, where the performers transform into animals, insects, cacti, the sun, and more. This family friendly show is suitable for children ages 7 and up. There are additional performances through July 16th. Tickets range in price from $10 to $66 and can be purchased online at The Joyce Theater Website.

On Saturday, Shapeshifter Lab (18 Whitwell Place, Brooklyn) will host O Say Can You Sing! A family concert celebrating America featuring the Deedle Deedle Dees and Red Yarn. This family music event explores natures wonders while kids and adults alike can help sing about the adventures. Doors open at 10:00 and the show begins at 10:30. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

The West Orange Food Truck Festival will be held on Sunday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at West Orange High School (51 Conforti Avenue, West Orange). Eleven food trucks will be on site. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the food. Entertainment includes a DJ and Kidz Zone. For a full list of participating food trucks, visit the website.

Bank of America and Merrill Lynch credit or debit card holders can enjoy free admission during this month’s Museums on Us weekend. There are seven participating museums in New Jersey including Montclair Art Museum (3 South Mountain Avenue, Montclair), Morris Museum (6 Normandy Heights Road, Morristown) and Newark Museum (49 Washington Street, Newark).
