On July 22, 2017, the Montclair Police Athletic League (MPAL) and Montclair Policeman’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local 53 hosted the Kids Annual Fishing Derby at Edgemont Pond in partnership with the Montclair Anglers, Eureka Lodge #52 (PHA), and Montclair Recreation. The derby was well attended by more than 120 kids, parents, and friends. After receiving a safety briefing, and casting class/contest from the Montclair Anglers, most kids were able to catch at least one fish, many caught several.

Prizes were awarded for the 1st fish caught, largest fish caught, the most fish caught (18), and furthest cast. In preparation for the event, the pond was restocked by a local hatchery, thanks to PBA Local 53. At the close of the competition, cold drinks and pizza were provided for all.
