Montclair was “A Little More Country Than That” Thursday evening Oct. 5, when Easton Corbin rolled into town.
Concertgoers young and old came to the Wellmont Theater on Seymour Street to enjoy traditional country music. Corbin, who has a deep voice often compared by rock critics to living legend George Strait, rocked a packed house.
“A Little More Country Than That” was Corbin’s debut single and his first number one hit.

Opening for Corbin was Dead Winter Carpenters, with Montclair resident Dave Lockhart on upright and electric bass. Also in DWC are Jesse Dunn on acoustic and electric guitars, Jenni Charles on fiddle, Nick Swimley on lead telecaster guitar, and Brendan Smith on drums. The opening band played original tunes including “Colorado Wildfire” and “Find Your Home.”
The crowd seemed warmed up by the Dead Winter Carpenters, and kept the momentum going, singing loudly to the older country hits played on the speakers waiting for Corbin’s entrance.
“It’s been a hard week for those in the music industry,” Dunn said. He dedicated two covers of Tom Petty songs, “Learning to Fly” and “Is it Enough” to Petty and to the victims of the Las Vegas mass murderer.
Corbin performed his hit songs including “Roll With It,” “Lovin’ You is Fun,” “All Over the Road,” “Yup,” and “Clockwork.” He also sang a new single “A Girl Like You,” from his upcoming fourth studio album.
The crowd belted the lyrics to each song along with Corbin. He also performed covers of songs by other artists, including Brooks and Dunn, Tracy Byrd, Jimmy Buffet and Kenny Chesney.
“Any song I sing comes out country,” Corbin said in his Southern accent, which was apparent when he sang Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.”
Corbin signed autographs on stage and met with many fans afterward during a special Meet and Greet.
A few lucky fans who waited patiently outside snagged a quick photo and a signature as Corbin was about to board his tour bus.
