Where do you live? Above Ruthie’s BBQ in heart of MOFO, Montclair
When did you move there? Off and on, between NY and Montclair, about 10 years ago. Full time in Montclair for 3 years.
Where did you grow up? Montclair, luckily!
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion?
I have always made a living doing what I love, not to say I have always loved what I am doing! But it’s always about creativity, working with people I admire and want to support, and working at something that gives people joy. That has included fashion design, graphic design, art direction, branding, writing, and now running a restaurant, baking, with some farming on the side. I love the fact that I have had a professional life that has allowed me to pursue my many interests, and work with so many diverse people
Coffee, tea or … ? Ice Cream
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day? Walking in the woods with Eric and our lil’ dog LuLu in Eagle Rock, and getting lost.
What’s your favorite local restaurant?
Ahh – have to say I do like Ruthie’s a lot (thank goodness), but when we can get out, we love to relax outside at Egan’s, Mish Mish for brunch, Ani Ramen – love to slurp there alone at the bar! Love Little Daisy’s for a treat, The Pie Shop for another treat, Local for coffee, and recently had the lobster salad at Gus’s Seafood, fantastic!! And I want to go more to Noches De Columbia. I have traveled through Central America, and this is the real deal, such a treat to have this in our town.
What’s on your nightstand?
Besides a ton of New Yorker Mag’s and various sections of the New York Times that I really want to devour in print, I read on a kindle and that is fully loaded. Right now it’s Kazuo Ishiguro’s Remains of the Day that has me shaking, so beautifully written, so very lonely, so very observant. But then again, I did just order a hardcover of Liana Finck’s Passing for Human as I love irony.
What are you listening to? Eric playing guitar.
What are your current indulgences? Answering this profile.
What talent you would most like to have? Singing – I can kinda sing, but I would like to REALLY sing, like my friend Julianne from Big MaMou.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about Montclair?
It’s one if my favorite places to bike ride. And you can get anywhere in a few minutes and never worry about parking. Since it’s north and south to all the town centers you don’t have to deal with hills if you don’t want to. But if you want hills there are many where you can gleefully soar by all those beautiful homes! That is why I am so very proud of the work Bike Walk Montclair is doing!
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral? She made us welcome, and we loved to watch her dance.
