The Montclair Public Library Foundation was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Investors Foundation to support the Library’s popular Open Book/Open Mind author conversation series. The grant will help further the Library’s mission of providing lifelong learning to residents of Montclair and surrounding areas.
“We are deeply grateful to The Montclair Foundation for its continuing support of our Open Book/Open Mind series” said Library Director Peter Coyl. “It’s a distinctive program that helps Montclair residents stay informed about and engaged in today’s important issues.”
Open Book/Open Mind aims to expand Montclair’s intellectual horizons by bringing speakers who can explore in-depth timely topics. The series, now in its fifth year, presents conversations on a wide variety of topics and genres, from fiction to journalism, through discussions and presentations by thought leaders and authors who are leading writers in their fields. Since the series’ inception in January 2015, 38 conversations have been presented that have attracted nearly 6,000 attendees. Recent speakers included celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich, best-selling novelist Julia Alvarez, Edward Tenner discussing The Efficiency Paradox, and New York Times writer David Itzkoff on the impact that struggles with mental illness played in the life of comedic superstar Robin Williams
