On Friday July 12th, 2019, Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Detention Camps, will bring tens of thousands of protestors to detention camps across the country, into the streets and into their own front yards, to protest the inhumane conditions faced by refugees.
Lights for Liberty vigils are scheduled in hundreds of locations around the United States and the world, with new locations being added daily. Women for Progress, Blue Wave NJ, Our Revolution Bergen County and Montclair Peace Vigil are proud to take part in these worldwide efforts by hosting a local vigil in Montclair.
Beginning at 7 p.m. on July 12th, advocates, activists and impacted persons will speak on the issue of human detention camps in the United States. At 9 p.m., around the country and around the world, participants will light candles in a silent vigil for all those held in US detention camps.
“We are hosting this event to show solidarity with those who are suffering at the hands of the Trump administration and the inhumane policies affecting these individuals, families and children. We will not be silent as the affected individuals are being stripped of their human rights and dignity,” says Women for Progress Executive Director Erin Chung.
