Missing couple

The Montclair Township Council is calling on Montclair’s national representatives to do what they can to aid in the search for a missing Montclair couple in Barbados.

Oscar Suarez, 32, and his girlfriend, Magdalena Devil, 25, disappeared on June 24 while on a jet-skiing excursion in Barbados. An air and sea-based search over the next six days failed to locate them. On July 6, the blue Yamaha jet ski the couple had been riding was found floating in the sea off the southern coast of Guadeloupe, 250 miles northwest of Barbados. However, there was no sign of the couple.

Suarez and Devil’s families have vowed to continue the search, and have hired lawyers and private investigators to help.

The council passed a resolution at the July 23 meeting urging New Jersey’s representatives, including Sens. Cory Booker and Robert Menendez, and Reps. Mikie Sherrill and Donald Payne, to do what is in their power to aid the search. This included urging the United States government to persuade authorities in Barbados to give the investigation into the couple’s disappearance the highest possible priority.

All of New Jersey’s senators and representatives were copied on the resolution.
